Airfields question.

Post by VonWulfen »

Hello all.
I see from the manual that certain hex types prohibit an air unit from occupying that hex unless you build an airfield.
Does this mean that all hexes not covered by this rule are presumed to already have an airfield?
Also, does a built airfield add any benefits other than allowing an air unit to be stationed on that hex?

When you select an air unit you will see where you can move to and where you can't. Besides impassible hexes, which are just black, you can build airfields anywhere else. Now there is a matter of supplying that location. So putting an airfield in the middle of 20 surrounding mountains with no roads isn't very productive.

Mostly this will be used in WarPlan Pacific.

The only benefit is allowing air to land.

Many thanks.
I understand the terrain rule.
My question is more about a hex not covered by this rule.
For instance; I have moved east on the Russian front with my ground units. I then move my air units to the rear of my ground units to allow them to cover more Russian assets.
I place them on a grassland hex.
There is no indication that an airfield is present before I move my air assets to this hex.
So I'm assuming that any hex that does not prohibit air units either already has an airfield, or one is created automatically?

You can assume there is an airfield yes. No need to create one.

OK, dumb question on my part then ……

Why is there an airfield unit shown in Amsterdam for the 1939 scenario …. Is this a blocked hex for aircraft otherwise ?

unknown air units of the enemy appear as airfields it seems.
