How my Jakes ended up on an I class sub off Oz...

Post by tabpub »

and then got to Gilli Gilli....

I was looking at transferring some Jake's in Kavieng to a different base. During the process, I decided not to do it, but didn't exit the screen. Forgetting I was in the "select a new base" mode, I clicked on an I boat to look her over. Nothing came up until I clicked on the sub again and the normal stats showed.

Flash forward a couple turns, to find me checking air groups and noticing that the Jakes at Kavieng were missing! I went to the master list and they were listed, but w/o a base name in the column. So, I accessed them via group name, and there they were on the I boat! Couldn't do anything with them, especially transfer them somewhere else; so, I sent the I boat to GG. When the boat got there, I was able to transfer then to the base. I lost some "damaged" planes in the process, and right now I don't know if they are still on the I boat, (forgot to check).

This has to be one of the "strangest" things I have seen yet, and I would have thought that someone had done it before this and corrected it. Ah, well, just pay attention to what you are doing will be good watchwords in the future....

There's smoke in the cockpit and gray in my hair.
The tracers look fine as a strafin' we go.
But, brother, we're TOO God damn low...

The Japanese subs have a capacity of 1 so you can transfer an air group to them. Of course, if the air group has over 1 plane they won't fly because the sub will be over 110% of it's capacity.

I was in "transfer to base" mode, not to "ship".
Secondly, the range was far out of the realm of possibility. Kavieng to anywhere off the Australian coast would be beyond the transfer distance of a Jake Float Plane. I think that this is one of the "little things" that slip thru the cracks, not something that should be considered in the realm of probability.
