[Q] How to use Tacview?

Post by fatgreta1066 »

I'm probably missing this in a big way, but when I click on the link for Tacview's documentation I don't see anything about how to use it with CMO. I see the line in the CMO program where I should indicate where the Tacview executable file is, which I've done, but I'm not sure how to see what's happening on the screen in Tacview.

Thanks,

Chris

PS - I'm in the 21 day demo period of Tacview, if that matters. I just updated CMO to 1.00.11156

I've not found any docs for Tacview with CMO, though I'm using the Steam version. I'm just learning by tinkering.

If you run it directly from the executable you can change the settings, e.g. I've changed "Terrain Display Mode" to "3D + Underwater".

In CMO when the Tacview window appear, you can use the mouse to zoom and also rotate view direction.

I've found certain foibles using it in CMO - if I have selected a unit and then launch 3D View, Tacview often starts up with a different unit highlighted/centred. I have to click something else and then back to centre on what I want.

It's sad because TacView is one of the selling points for CMO and the truth is we can't use it without risking seeing more information than we should in a simulation where intel gathering is on of the most important core features. Using TacView is risky because it has the potential to ruin your whole experience in a given scenario.

My current approach is to zoom right in on my selected unit while the window is small; only then will I maybe maximise it. Maybe in my younger days my eagle-vision might spot something I shouldn't see, but so far I'm being careful and not finding a major problem. But I am new to it and still learning what it can do.

Bear in mind it's optional - not necessary to play the game.

Should the devs just not have included Tacview compatibility unless/until FoW is implemented?

I'd say no - I'm enjoying my learning curve and the extra immersion right now. Sure I'd welcome FoW as it will open up much more extensive use, but I'm not actually losing anything by having it in its current state.

This aproach is not an option for me because the risk is still there.

Again, you don't have to use the 3D window. Then there is no "risk". If you are only playing CMO for the 3D window, you are playing the wrong game.

I have bought Tacview advanced for use with CMO. Following the CMO instructions, I booted up CMO, loaded a scenario and got a plane into the air. I clicked on options then Tacview and then pasted the Tacview exe path in the box as directed. When I click on 3D now, via the view menu, Tacview boots up which then gives me the picture of the globe. However, the CMO 3D window remains completely blank. I have played around with the Tacview settings, but to no avail. I have also noticed that the 3D tickbox in the view menu remains unticked. Can anybody help me?

Thanks in advance,

PongoDeMer.

Anyone know if there is a way to expose to full Tacview toolbar? I made it happen once, possibly a bug or glitch and i can't replicate it again.

Alternatively, is there a way to pan the view?
