[Q] Map cache question

Post by overkill01 »

Maplayers get dowloaded on demand and get stored on a drive somewhere.

Some questions:
- Where do they get saved? Can I change this location?
- Are they permanently saved, or do they get deleted over time?
- If they get deleted, can I save them?
- Why is it that when I zoom out I see the old map and pieces from the new one ?

I've got plenty ssd and hdd space, I have very decent hardware, what I dont have is decent internet. I dont want to waste MB's for downloading the same maps 20 times over again. I'd rather just download it and be done with it.

This is a very interesting information. Maybe add the answer to the mega-faq.

Thanks!

They are stored on [CMO]\WW\Cache

Permanently saved for now. We have a request for a "cache cap" feature similar to GE, but it will have to wait until the release dust settles.
- If they get deleted, can I save them?
Certainly, they are plain JPG and PNG files.
- Why is it that when I zoom out I see the old map and pieces from the new one ?
The program is retaining the previous-zoom picture as a rough placeholder while populating the new batch of tiles for the new zoom. If you try Google Maps / Earth on a slow connection you will see a similar effect.

Thanks.

Hi Dimitris,
first I want to thank you and your development team for this product. It still has a lot of bugs but I'm thankful for the existence of this product.

Now to my point. Is it possible to show some kind of download indicator (like in google-maps) when your application connects to your server for map tiles?

I know this is a very low prio wish.

I hope when this feature comes, we will be able to deactivate the cap ?

Why not replace the placeholder with the new map then ?
