this vs SC/CEAW

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

this vs SC/CEAW

Post by battlevonwar »

How do you all like the feel vs the other two titles? Time of Fury was a little different scale to me so I won't bring that up. I particularly liked CEAW for a short time and this seems to have some particulars like it. Also some similar qualities to SC...however is it unique enough and challenging/fun to play?

SC last Strategic European Release had some bugs to iron out.(i.e. air power was a bit strong and the terrain in places could cause stalemates for human on human action) CEAW became a finished product more or less but very exploitable but simple...like older SC titles. Both did quite well!

Spill out the Gold dust/Dirt? If you will... I promise not to tell anyone [:D]

No brainer here as the potential of this game engine is far above the other two(SC & CEAW). It has a completely different "feel".

I've just started learning Warplan and playing the 1939 campaign. I've played tons of Strategic Campaign both classic and newest version. Don't own CEAW-looks something like Panzer General or variant based off it, but that's just based on what I see, don't know how it actually plays.

Anyway as mentioned above. This is a completely different beast. I pretty much ignored this until I saw a YouTube video and immediately got interested as the different feel was apparent. I once called SC a beer and pretzels type of game. Warplan is more like a good burger with fries and beer type of game.

Monster games like War in the West or War in the Pacific is the full course meal with dessert type of game. For many it's too much and causes indigestion.

I love SC and the monster games. So far I'm really liking WP. It's more complex than SC but not overwhelming like the monster games.

I like the stacking of naval units. You can make fleets. In SC it's one naval unit per hex. You can also stack ground, air and naval units. Don't know about CEAW in terms of stacking.

Overall the different feel and execution of WP makes it a different game than SC. Really amazing this was done by a 1 man shop. As much as I love the SC series, I may end up liking WP more.

I'm really waiting for the PTO variant.

SC is a different game. I didn't want to clone an already great game. I wanted to give something new in a wargame mode. SC has events that players can choose from which I believe is the "soul" WarPlan is lacking in the Wargamer review. But I wanted to focus on depth of long term strategic decisions.

SC and WarPlan are ice cream, just different flavors. Hubert has done a bang up job on SC3 A.I. I can tell the difference from SC2. I got all his games. Sometimes I play WarPlan and sometimes I play SC depending on my ice cream taste of the day.
