'39 Luftwaffe getting trashed?

Post by AlbertN »

Well - more like Allies too strong in the air?
In my few new games the Luftwaffe is just getting -trashed- by the Uk-French airforce.

The fact they start with a slightly better experience is lost pratically on the spot of the first few turns, and the 4 German fighters are just outgunned by the 6 Allied ones, that ultimately repair more and regain more efficiency each turn than the 4 German counterpart.

At least now to send bombers unescorted gets them proper damage. BUT alas it's the Allies to have air superiority in '39-'40 at least til France falls. Case Yellow with total air inferiority anyone?

Anyone is experiencing the same?

Not sure I follow you here.

CW begin with two FTR2, and France has one FTR2. Germany has four FTR2, and one FTR3. How did you arrive to the figures 6 Allied vs 4 German?

Experience? Efficiency? Repair? Are you sure you are posting in the right game forum?

Perhaps you are playing WarPlan and not World in Flames?

Germany should scrap some of its older fighters so it gets the 4 best fighters at the start of the war.

Scrapping older units (especially old air units) is a crucial part of the game. I have made it an optional rule but that is just for players who are absolute beginners. After a couple of turns of seeing how the game plays, the next new games should all include Scrap Units.

However, if one wants to play somewhat historically, you should not scrap anything at start of the game. All sides were having a lot of obsolete airplanes when war broke out...

I'm sure it's possible for the CW to get more fighters than Germany, but they do have a big problem with trying to make use of them - barring getting airbases in the Netherlands and Belgium, they're either stuck flying out of southern England or using up a precious foreign troop commitment slot.

The French can't do it in 1939, and they probably have more pressing needs for those build points in 1940, unless the Commonwealth is being very generous.
