RE: So what's happening with the new patch?
I've been through every war game there is and I can't find one that really appeals to me other than war in the pacific admirals edition but there simply not enough time to sit down and play that game proper. I seem to dislike turn based static map games, but for some reason I keep coming back to TOAW and I think it's because each scenarios looks different and it's not the same static map over and over. I watched the Matrix videos but frankly they did not help much, anyone know good resources to really learn this game, I need to sit down with and understand how to really play so that I stop picking it up every 6 months feeling like it's a good game only to quit after an hour. Just one of the many example why do some units immediately attack but other units don't resolve until the turns end. Unit composition seems really hard to figure out, what am I missing.
Anyone that may know of some good resources I'd appreciate the heads up

@DD696
You find this bad?
I find it bad that I need to check the readme of a scenario to get info on the patch status in an important point(interdiction).
Or rather info at all because this is the most detailed info in the recent time on the patch.
@SilentHunter
Maybe you should try the "Road to Moscow" series, these are nice not too big scenarios on a divisional level that are a good point to start into TOAWIV.

RE: So what's happening with the new patch?
Thanks for that info, I was just thinking about having a look at FitE 1.8, but now that you say this, I will wait until it is compatible with the version of TOAW that I am running.ORIGINAL: DD696
Today the latest version of Fire in the East, 1.8, was released. According to the briefing for this new version, it was tested and is to be played using the latest beta version of TOAW. So now we have the biggest scenario of TOAW released to the unruly rabble of paying customers who cannot play it because they are not beta testers.

Is there something wrong with this picture?
Just asking...
Something is very wrong. While I don't think there is any conscious intent to stir up ill feeling, it just seems wrong to post up a scenario that the entire community can't use.
Only a small percentage have beta access, and it's not right to post this into a general forum section. It might not have been fully thought through prior to posting.
Just my opinion.

RE: So what's happening with the new patch?
Gentlemen: I have good news. I downloaded the 1.8 version of FITE2 and then I fired up 4.1.0.21, the latest patch version, and started a new game using the newest version of the scenario and right now Elmer is playing the Axis side and seems to be making better moves than I would. It's working just fine on my machine. Has anyone else tried it yet? Any problems reported? I seem to have no problems running that scenario. I thought you guys would want to know.ORIGINAL: DD696

Well, it is confusing. There was another post somewhere that mentioned the interdiction thing status that I (and others) are eager to see "fixed".
With the current on-going sale (and TOAW is like, $25 now I think) we will see more users with similar questions. We've already seen two new users w/ questions, so I agree that this is an issue.

Larry, our posts crossed each other almost simultaneously.
I did not know that FitE2 even had a PO.
Perhaps confusion has arisen because of the notes about interdiction and play testing?
Is there a new briefing? How is interdiction? Is it fixed? I thought there was no interdiction allowed in FitE2? Anyway, thanks for the update, inquiring minds want to know!

RE: So what's happening with the new patch?
The end-of-combat-phase-INT has been fixed in a future version and is handled by the game engine and not the scenario but yes, the 1.8 version of FITE2 seems to be running fine using 4.1.0.21. I have had Elmer moving the Axis units for about a half an hour now. No problems encountered so far.How is interdiction? Is it fixed? I thought there was no interdiction allowed in FitE2? RE: So what's happening with the new patch?
Let me say that this is the last thing I need to be wasting time on, but, as you know, we don’t have a permanent Matrix manager available yet, so I guess I have to assume these duties.
1. There is a bug-fix update being built. That means that the TOAW executable is finished, and Matrix is making the installation executable for it. Ralph and I don’t create that software. We have to wait for Matrix to complete it. Unfortunately, we missed the deadline window to get such things out before the holidays. So, it probably won’t be back to us for release till after the holidays. And then we’ll still have to test it out. We’ve had many false starts on the release due to many issues with the build – not just further bugs to fix, but the build is complicated by the need to handle both Matrix and Steam installations.
2. We do have concrete and ambitious plans for the expansion of TOAW. Initial elements of that have been/are being worked on as I write this.
I would love to discuss what those plans are. But there are reasons why Matrix frowns on that:
1. Discussions too far in advance cause initial excitement, that then wears off long before the release. So Matrix wants such discussions to be timed much closer to the release date.
2. Announcement of potential features far in advance of their development may leave users feeling scammed if they buy the game on anticipation of those features, only to have us determine that, in the end, those features were too hard to implement and cancel them.
It’s also very difficult to give any schedule for the dates of any updates. Certainly, if the features haven’t even been coded yet, estimating how long it will take to code them is a fool’s errand. I seriously doubt that brain surgery is more complex than what we’re trying to do. There is also the problem that no one has the full picture. Ralph isn’t looking over my shoulder, or I his. No one is monitoring the Matrix guys making the installation build either. Usually, no one is certain of the release date until that very day.

Thanks for the update. For people outside the US (this little black duck for one) when do the "holidays" start and finish? In Australia we get Christmas day, boxing day and new years day.
Thought for the day:
If you feel like doing some work, sit down and wait....... The feeling does go away.

It has seemed to me that Europe (where Matrix/Slitherine is located) closes down from the first week of December till the week after New Years Day. [:D]
In the U.S. you might get off early Christmas Eve day. You get off Christmas. If Christmas falls on a Thursday or Tuesday you might get Friday or Monday off for a four day weekend. New Years Day is a day off and works about like Christmas for the most part. That's it. Some don't even get those.

Yet you do have plenty of time to be posting quite frequently in this thread.

I also eat, sleep, watch TV & movies, read books, play golf, take care of a house, tend to my portfolio, dally with the occasional lovely young lady, and otherwise live my life. The above thread was recreation. Handling this crap cuts directly into the time budget I have for doing TOAW IV development.
Note that I do incur sacrifice for such development. Were I not doing it, I would be designing far more scenarios.

An additional crap handler is way over due. There is no shortage of volunteers many of whom have been in the military and know the value of keeping their mouths shut about sensitive material, know how to follow orders, are aware of the value of teamwork. and know how to program. [;)]
