Error: "Saved game failed to load"

An opponent and I have attempted to create a secure PBEM game. We got through the setup and deployment okay, but the first turn he sent to meregisters the error msg: "Saved game failed to load". What could be the problem and is the game salvageable. He tried rezipping and sending again with the same msg.
