Carrier capacity used error WITP AE

Post by Luftmann »

I'm having an issue with CV capacity used where it states there are more aircraft present than actual are. Aircraft are diverting to nearby bases
as well. Does anybody have any thoughts?

This frequently comes up when non-carrier-capable aircraft are put on carriers. They take up 3x (IIRC) the space, and can overload the carrier. Note that the F4U-1 is NOT carrier capable (the -1A is).

If that didn't answer it for you, please include a screenshot. In this case the Akagi has 86 planes counted plus there are an additional three that aren't counted. The reserve planes don't count so long as the total does not exceed 115% of capacity, which for Akagi would be 93 planes.

Unless you are using the carrier as a freighter to transport planes from dock to dock, never let your count plus reserve planes exceed that 115%. In the course of operations, planes may come out of reserve while other planes are in maintenance or being repaired, so Akagi in this case could end up with 89 planes and no reserves.

In addition to plane count, a CV can only have five squadrons or portions thereof aboard and still carry out air ops. Exceed that and your CV is a fancy airplane ferry.
If you lose some carriers during an air battle and the orphaned squadrons start landing on your other carriers, overstacking them you can:
- disband the excess number of squadrons and absorb the planes and pilots into your existing squadrons if the carrier can handle the aircraft numbers. I.E. the disbanded aircraft replace losses from the CV's own squadrons.
- if flight ops are possible, move close enough to one of your bases to transfer excess aircraft there by flying them off
- if flight ops are not possible and you can't absorb the numbers aboard, disband the orphans and lose the aircraft but not the pilots (planes pushed over the side). Pilots will go back to the pilot reserve pool.

Thanks for the input. I didn't realize that when I upgraded my A6M2s to A6M3s, theA6M3s weren't carrier capable.
Lesson learned, be mindful of CV aircraft upgrades!

Man, as you get older the mind just doesn't remember things. I don't know why I thought it was 10% overage.

Bumping for newer players...

FWIW, USN Fleet Carriers the USN operates in 1942

Lexington Class 90 planes 15 % overage will limit you to 103 for carrier flight operations.
Yorktown Class 90 planes 15 % overage will limit you to 103 for carrier flight operations.
Wasp Class 76 planes 15 % overage will limit you to 87 for carrier flight operations.

And Dababes has a change in squadron strengths. One squadron {18} of Hellcats and one {36} of Corsairs. The Excess Hellcats to to reserve and still count, overloading the carrier. I sent the extra planes back to the pool, sent the excess pilots back to their pool and manually pulled Corsairs into the new double size squadrons. There's probably a better or easier way of doing it but it didn't seem to do it automatically for me.

Is there a way to highlight a bunch of "Request Veteran" pilots and send them to a squadron all at once? I couldn't get them to do it.

You are remembering the 10% because that is the limit with no ops penalties. Going above that adds a bit more fragmentation of your strikes as the deck crew move aircraft around.
