Benghazi is secure,
Elmer is putting up a fight around Agadabia

DAK remnants keep popping up out of the desert, too
they slow the roll

LoL Yes, I keep them spread out so
I can shift them around to follow the Rat Patrol

I rotate them to keep the best supply in front.
Right now, the 2nd New Zealanders and the French are in back
getting supply back up

They go to front after Agadabia is cleaned up.
Will probably take two more turns to clean out Agadabia

51st Infantry has turned the corner
and is on its way to the western edge of the map

still some DAK holdouts in the badlands around Agadabia,
having to find foot soldiers or dismounts
to clean them out

Reached the westernmost point hex ...
but there is still 1 one-point hex somewhere

will have to find that and occupy if I can for total victory
Elmer still has some DAK holdouts along the coast,

trying to clean that up
and will try to bomb out the German air that is on the north edge of the map

I think that is Crete? not sure. ...

@ CW turn 116 now.

All German forces that were on the African continent
have been destroyed, and apparently they
cannot reconstitute there,
due to my control of so many hexes around the reconstitution point

Germans seem to be appearing now in Crete,
but Crete is inaccessible to me,
and there seems to be no way for Elmer to ship forces from there
to Africa

I started to try bombing runs against off-map German airfields and Crete,
but I took too many losses. So now, I am just cycling through the moves
to get to the victory screen. Crete is shown here ... with the Germans that are there ...

This is (to me) a pretty entertaining scene,
would be of course harder against a human opponent.

But Elmer (set to "cheat mode +2")
put up a pretty good fight for about 50 / 60 moves.

But, once I attained the solid initiative, around turn 70 I think,
it was not too difficult to push him off the map.

I would say it is a medium level scene, a good learning scene,
good for practicing escarpment attack / defense,
and your mobile desert warfare.

Escarpments (there are two types, I think, a "minor" and a "major" escarpment)
they provide certain benefits to defenders
and benefits for artillery that "looks down" on any enemies on the "other" side
i.e., you want to defend from the "top" of the escarpment (or "behind" it, as I think of it)
and you want to position your artillery to shoot "down" from the top of the escarpment
onto any folks that are parked "down wind" there ...

ok, well, I tried to upload the "TOAW Reference Chart" but could not, is linked in next post.
Here is a picture about escarpment:
It shows a "major" escarpment (which the attacker cannot cross, anyway)
but the principles are the same for "minor" escarpments (which the attacker CAN cross,
but at a serious disadvantage against an "escarped" defender)
The CfNA maps are CRAWLING with escarpments ... so you have to choose your
attacks / defenses with care. Using these terrain effects makes a lot of difference in these desert scenes.
