Air units - questions

Post by Bismarck2761 »

For players, not the designer:

1. How do Fighters work? I see air lost in battles, but other than striking with them, how do they function?

2. Related to (1): Should you leave good interceptors and escorts with 'missions' left to fly for them to function?

3. For ground support by air in attacks, do air units need to have 'missions' left to fly, or do they support after both missions are flown?

4. When do you want to have F-Bs, escorts, and interceptors in your mix?

Thx.

Since no player answered I will step in.

#1 Air Superiority units are for intercepting and escorting. That is what they are best at. If you take the fighter-bomber advancement then they become dual purpose but still not as good as a bomber group.

#2 Air Sups should always be left in support mode. Put them in mission mode to heal and recover effectiveness if they are getting battered. Doesn't stop them from being bombed though.

#3 Mission mode means the human player controls the action. Support mode means the air unit will automatically support units. So if you want ground support I would put some units in support mode. You can also just put all bombers in support mode and ground strike with the ones you want to use then perform attacks. That way unused bombers now ground support. Lots of ways to do it.

#4 Just put air sups in support mode. If you want to pursue a fighter bomber strategy that would be an interesting play just having interceptors and fighter-bombers instead of traditional units. I just might do that one game.
