Game won't start through Steam
Game won't start through Steam
Hi, when I try to launch the game through Steam, my Steam account gets stuck in the "In-Game: Strategic Command WWI" status, but nothing happens. The game doesn't launch, I can't close the game through steam, and there's no process to terminate in the process monitor. I've tried uninstalling + reinstalling and validating the game files but everything seems fine. I can run the Matrix launcher from the game folder, but once it tries to communicate with Steam, the same thing happens.
Any help is appreciated.

If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use was the rule?
RE: Game won't start through Steam
run steam and the game as admin
Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (25H2) (26200.7309)
RE: Game won't start through Steam
Tried that, no luck.

RE: Game won't start through Steam
reboot the pc, and see when steam restart, then the game starts
Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (25H2) (26200.7309)
RE: Game won't start through Steam
Thanks but I've tried that multiple times and no luck. Regardless if I launch it through the steam UI or directly through the EXE in the folder.

RE: Game won't start through Steam
if you install and run as admin, it sets up the correct file permissions to run with your firewall and antivirus, any other way, it's a manual edit to one or either for it to get to work, so depending on what you use, as some are game friendly., others aren't i'm sorry to say, so either could be blocking the game from running or working correctly, you would need to check both logs to see what has or may have blocked it, or try the game logs, if it's made any for a false start etc

RE: Game won't start through Steam
I've installed the game running Steam as admin, and I tried disabling all my antivirus software (Malwarebytes, BitDefender, and Windows Firewall) and running the game, and it didn't make a difference. I don't think the antivirus is blocking it.

RE: Game won't start through Steam
It's definitely an issue with Steam. I originally bought the game through the Matrix store and redeemed it through steam, so I just downloaded the installer from the Matrix store and it's running without a hitch.

RE: Game won't start through Steam
if it's an issue with steam and the installer on it, then everyone would have the same issue, so far only 2 have any game issues at all, so something else i'm sorry to say is in the mix, but what is another question altogether, i'd open a support ticket, so someone from there can any more details and not in the open, as i'd need logs and system info details for more info

Maybe you do not have .net installed.
Check windows apps, run a repair on .net 4.7

When I installed via the Matrix installer the .net installer said I'm up to date, so I don't think it's that.
If you're on Windows, you can create a zip file. Right-click > Send to > Compressed Folder

I'm having the same issue as Infierno, and I've tried all your suggestions to no avail either. I bought mine on steam, so I hadn't thought to try and download it from matrix. I'd like to play today. [8D]
RE: Game won't start through Steam
Have you tried setting the game to play in windowed mode?
Have you tried with Steam overlay disabled?

RE: Game won't start through Steam
I've tried that also, and I have noticed that it is the launcher that seems to get stuck. When you run the game exe, that's where it hangs up or doesn't display anything after it loads. Mine gets hung up and I have to manually go into the task manager and stop the "Launch" program. I cannot stop it thru steam once I've tried to start it. I've also checked my firewall settings, which are good, and my permissions, which are all on "Full Control".

just installed on steam and can't recreate the error

RE: Game won't start through Steam
when steam launched the game, did it setup all the prerequisites as required, as no matter how many you already have, the game on loading with still load more on the first install, without the game won't load.
if still that doesn't work, try this one, but you will need your steam password and user name before you begin

RE: Game won't start through Steam
from your report, it seems you have a missing file, from what i can read of the read and make out, to add the file back in is easy, just may take a while, while it's missing is anyone guess, as it's a windows file, not game related either,
System File Checker is a utility included with every Windows version that allows you scan and restore corrupted system files. Use the SFC tool to fix missing or corrupt EdgeManager.dll files (Windows 10):
Hit the Windows Start button
In the search box, type "cmd" but DO NOT PRESS "ENTER".
Press and hold "CTRL-Shift" on your keyboard while pressing "ENTER".
You'll be prompted with a permission dialog box.
In the box, click "YES".
You should have a black screen with a blinking cursor.
In that black screen, type "sfc /scannow" and hit "ENTER".
SFC will begin scanning for EdgeManager.dll issues and any other system file problems.
Follow any on-screen commands to complete the process.
Please be aware that this scan might take a while, so please be patient while it is working.
the file that's failing, or is missing or has crashed the launcher is called
edgemanager.dll
