CMO Battle of Midway 1942 Beta

Post by angster »

Battle of Midway
June 3-7 1942

Overview
The Battle of Midway was an epic encounter between the Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States Pacific Fleet. After inflicting a devastating blow at Pearl Harbor, the Imperial Japanese Navy under Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto sought to draw out the remaining American Pacific Fleet by attacking and occupying the Midway Atoll.

The Japanese operation was hampered by poor initial assessment of American strength and a lack of effective reconnaissance. American cryptographers were able to determine the exact time and place of the Japanese attack, allowing the US Pacific Fleet to layout its own ambush.

Four Japanese and three American carriers participated in the battle, with neither fleets ever come within visual range of each other. In the end, the US Pacific Fleet under Admiral Chester W. Nimitz delivered a decisive blow on the Japanese invasion fleet, sinking the Japanese carrier Akagi, Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu, along with the cruiser Mikuma. In exchange, the US lost the carrier Yorktown and her destroyer escort Hammann.

Scenario
Play as the United States Navy or Imperial Japanese Navy. Preserve history or change it completely.

Author's Note
Special thanks to midway1942.com for the detailed order of battle and historical fleet positions. All major surface combatants and air squadrons are modeled in this scenario along with key participants of the battle. o7
Also credits to the Lat Long converter Lua script from Silent Service.

Historical Differences
Due to limitations, some historical units are replaced with temporary placeholders. They should not affect the overall gameplay of the scenario. Differences will be listed at a later time.

Update 12/8/2019
Update retreat logic. Fleets that suffer significant damage will retreat. Player fleets are unaffected.

Have you tried the following:
1.) Unzip the attachment
2.) Move the .scen file into the Scenarios folder
3.) Scenario should show up on the list on starting a new game
4.) Only tested on Command Modern Operations

Let me know if it doesn't work.

Loaded up and the PBYs are on the way to their patrols. Nice job setting this up. I see where you have some placeholder effects with the heavy cruisers represented by CL Clevelands. Assuming that the battle takes the course similar to the real one, the substitutions would have little to no effect.

Really looking forward to this and seeing how the system works with WW2. Especially how the torpedo and dive bombers work. The setup and patrol missions appear accurate from my memory of readings of the battle.

Thanks for this.

Are you currently using a language format besides English?

I noticed the scenario will not load in Francais but works in English
Try the following if it works for you?

Windows Settings => Time & Language => Language => + Add A Language and select English (United States) => Select the language

I'm interested in the concept, but how well is dive-bombing modeled in CMO?
The boogabooga doctrine for CMO: Any intentional human intervention needs to be able to completely and reliably over-ride anything that the AI is doing at any time.

I'm guessing not at all but I'm still looking forward to playing around with this.

Hmm tried on another computer and it works. Not sure why it won't work on your version. Send me a PM for the error and the version of command you are using.
