Installing Mods with extended map without messing up one's regular map

I've been considering adding the "extended map" but am worried about mucking up my current PBEM which uses the stock map. I would like to know how to do this.

1) First off, is there only one version of "extended map" or are there several which are adapted to different Mods?

2) It at least seems that there is a map which would be good for DBB-C and Bottlenecks. Is there a corresponding Big B map?

I would need step by step instructions which no assumptions of basic computer knowledge (which I may or may not have).

Just make a new installation of the game and use that.
