HELP! Multiplayer won't work

I am updated. I can sign in with my user name and password. I can see the lobby screen. I can host a game. I cannot see any other players. I tried clicking the game manual button, but it doesn't work.

Is it possible that there is just nobody else in the lobby? The key issue with head to head games is that players need to be online at the same time.

I didn't see anyone in the lobby, late at night east coast, until very recently. If someone in the lobby is in a game, does their connection level bars show as empty? If direct-connected, do they show up in the lobby? Are people matching up via other means such as Discord, or is there just no one playing this game in multiplayer?
