German Artillery Units

Post by Zemke »

Does anyone have a list of German support artillery units and their gun size in the game? I am looking for heavy artillery to blast out Stavastopol and it is hit or miss going through the clunky Commander's Report.

As far as I know this is going to be very difficult with the UI as it stands.
The heavy artillery units are deployed initially with the units near Brest Litovsk so you can support an expensive frontal attack on it on turn 1 if you want.
Then they withdraw soon afterwards. At some point later on they come back, more or less in time to support attacks on Sevastopol, but they'll go to OKH IIRC.
Just how you would nurse them along to where they're actually wanted from there I've never actually tried. Too much trouble for two lousy batteries, I don't think it has a material effect.
Since this is usually done by 11th Army, I think it is possible to attach them there or to one of its corps using a series of attachment actions But you have to find them first and I believe you are stuck with the Commanders Report for this.
I've never felt this was worth the effort, and I reckon you are better off concentrating your mountain divisions for this purpose and attacking Sev from as many sides as possible, which seems to work OK in the end.

I need a list with unit names and the caliber of gun, so I can find the big guns I do have and move them to the appropriate HQs. Surely someone out there has made a list by now or can point me in the right direction.

Heck, I may have to make my own of I am forced to dig through the Commander's Report. Which is a real pain in the ass, and I hope it and/or the interface, in general, is fixed in WitE2.

41 M18 Howitzer Bn- 210mm Howitzers
41 Heavy Howitzer Bn- 355/305mm Howitzers
41 H39 Howitzer Bn- 240mm Howitzers
41 Siege Mortar Battery- 600mm Siege Mortars

All the other Bns are lower calibers. Keep in mind that testing has shown that artillery in 1.11.03 has little effect on fort reduction.

Cheers!

If I remember right, you can open production screen, select germany and find heavy artillery. There is a number to the right in that row- list of units which are equiped with that item. Clicking it should open comander report with this units selected.

An other way is to use the oob filter on the commander's report when you have found one of the units you need.

Go to production screen and look for the category called "Super Heavy Artillery" - depending on what turn you are on there will be about half a dozen units, click on their number in blue on the right and it will take you to the commanders report filtered just with them.
