Arty op?

Post by wolf14455 »

To many times I lose a full corp type unit by just arty. Now a full (10) lvl1 Tank was killed by just artillery.
I guess its as designed but please ad a setup choise to allow 1 strenght point to remain, that retreat at least. Higher the war imersion quality IMHO. Please consider it.

Sorry, nothing wrong with your post / question,
My original reply did not answer your question, but I cannot delete it.

I wrote something about the unit being shattered, not destroyed, so you can still buy back at reduced cost.
However you point out frequency, which is something else.

Again, sorry for messing up your thread.

May be the following proposition: artillery cann't decrease unit hitpoints if it has equal or less than 2 hitpoints for Corps, Cavalry, Detachments and Garrisons and 4 - for Armour. I think the same rule must be not just for artillery but for aricrafts of all types. Total destroy of unit without ground combat - it's fantastic even nowadays.
But unlimited detrenchment, morale and readiness decrease - it's fine. May be not bad idea that unit can even retreat.

Do you happen to know what tech level the arty has, out of interest? Must be pretty late war for this to be possible.

(Not saying it's not a problem, just curious!)

It's probably a combination of recon-bombers and high lvl arty causing this effect. After watching this happen to my german corps in the West, I tried it on my end and received predictions of 0:2 against enemy tanks.

Artillery at level 0 rarely takes a strength point, but does a few points to readiness and morale. When artillery is upgraded to level 1 and above it becomes devastating. On two occasions, in two separate games, with the 1.03.01 patch I watched two artillery units that were level 1's, take down an entire corps in Nancy and Metz which are both fortress hexes (not at the same time, two separate occasions). In these two occasions there was no air involved, just the two artillery units. I've seen no difference with the new patch, but not on a fortress hex yet. When the AI starts stacking artillery in an area for an attack, it is hard to defend against it if they have enough units to push thru. Artillery really shouldn't win a battle all by itself.
