Anybody like this?

Post by PanzerMike »

My modding skills are abysmal. But I have been tinkering a little with the map. Tried to make it a little spicier.
If anybody likes it, I could put it up on dropbox or sumfink (once I figure out how that works...)

Yeah PanzerMike, I think it looks pretty good. All this modding stuff is really just a matter of individual preferences - Alvaro seems to go for less color saturation. Others seem to like more. Those who do will probably like your mod. I'd say just post it - those who like what they see can try it out.

I like the deeper colours so if this was available I would use it.

Thanks.

Hi all. Abysmal or no, some of you seem to like it :-) So, I have taken it a little further. I modded the coastlines and the Merchant marine icon.
It now looks like this:

I will put this up sometime this week, but I will tinker with it some more first.

I increased the saturation as well, except for the ground, that I kept as original. Looks better in the way that units now look more "into" the terrain they occupy. The operational situation is also more visible with the stronger appearance of rivers.

Be careful that the rail line don't get lost in deep coloured forests. My rails are two-coloured and doesn't suffer so much.

Yes, I did not like them either, so they were yanked. I am using the Warplan graphics as an excuse to get to know GIMP a little better. Learning as I go.
Anyway, it is nearing the point that I think it is fit for a first release.

As you can see in 2 of the pics, I am also experementing with the movepath.png file, adding small circles with information (M = Move, M/A = Move and Attack) next to the darker colors in the hexes.
Not sure about it yet, though.

Lookin' pretty sweet, PanzerMike. I use GIMP a bit. Steep learning curve, but extremely powerful once you get over the initial hurdles. If you have any questions I might be able to help.

Nice! The richer colours are more like a brand new shiny board game :-).
