What do the following catagories mean in the Enclclopedia Screen for an individual unit. I know this is a pretty basic question, but the manual is totally geared towards people who have played this game before, and leaves alot of gaps for those of us who are totally new at this.

"ACC"
"KILL"
"PEN"
"HEAT"
"APCR"
"RANGE"
"WARHEAD"
"SURVIVABILITY"
"RATE OF FIRE"

I mean, I know what those catagories mean, but what do the numbers indicate and what (if any) scale are they on.

Thanks

"ACC"= Accuracy of the weapon, the higher the number the more accurate it is. Good to know, for example you might have two 88mm guns to choose from one might be more accurate than the other.

"Kill"= This number is the max number of troops that the weapon can kill with one volley. Important, new types of rounds have been added. Where once we knew pretty much what an HE round would do, it is now a good idea to glance at the stats to see if it has been *beefed up*. An example of this is the British StuartV and the StuartVI, the first can shoot a 37mm canister round, the second cannot. If you compare the two there is quiet a differance.

"Pen"= Penatration. You will see two numbers here. The HE ( high explosive ) number is the max thickness in mm at the closest range it will pierce. AP ( armor piercing ) is the same.

"Heat"= high explosive anti-tank. This round uses concentrated heat to burn or melt through the armor.

"APCR"= I'm guessing on this one, armor piercing chemical round.

"Range"= Max range of the weapon according to the type of round fired. You will see two numbers here. Ok this is where you need to take a look the unit stats, by right clicking on the unit once bought. The chart showing range, type of round, and armor penetration. Notice the differance in range for each round, it isn't so important to memerize this as it is to know that the AP types have a shorter range.

"Warhead"= I don't remember and couldn't find it in my books. I recall seeing it on a forum I believe, but have forgotten. I think bigger is better here.

"Survivability"= I'm not sure the formula for computing this, but in a nut shell the higher the number the better chance it has of surviving the rigors of battle.

"Rate of Fire"= Again I don't remember the exact details of this one. My guess is that it is an average fire rate for a veteran unit. Elite would be higher.

Fire Control is an important number. The higher the number the faster the weapon can be reloaded. This is most apparent when comparing say German vrs. Russian tanks for the same time period. German fire control is usally the higher due to, tank commander duties and actual gun set up. Probably some other variables as well. The number also effects how many rounds you have to fire at the end of your movement.

Ok hope this helps, please if anything is wrong or needs explianed better feel free to fix it, fellow readers. Good hunting !!

now why i'm posting these and not playing the game... Image

Perhaps one of the game's creators will give us the right answers, but I recall the following explanation for the 'ACC'. Of course this may be a way off but I'll punish you with this anyway:

The number means that from that distance a regular? crew firing from stationary gun to stationary target has a 50% chance to hit. Then this base figure will be modified with experience, suppression, shooter/target movement, distance, fire control, stabilizer, range finder, whatever else (gunners biorhythm probably)
Of course the higher is the better but I'd like to know how it really works.

As for fire control it's not really the reloading speed but instead it means the quality of the aiming system in general. The german tanks usually have good FC because they had great optics. The tank commander having extra duties like in french tanks with 1-man turrets is represented by rate of fire being low.

Oh, and an OOB bug report too. Can you make the FC of the French FT-17 negative? I've been inside such a vehicle and the cannon is just like a big rifle with a shoulder stock..can't recall if the mounting plate had just a small hole to look thru/aim or did it actually have an aiming bead/groove...

The number of hexes at which a "good" unit can hit the target 50% of the time.

"APCR"= I'm guessing on this one, armor piercing chemical round.

Armour Piercing Composite Rigid. Represents APDS, HVAP, and APCR.

Warhead "size" gives an indication of the damage a round can do. e.g., a 20 mm round that penetrates will do less damage than an 88 mm that penetrates, consider it an indicator of KE transfer for inert rounds or amount of explosive for chemical rounds (HE, HEAT).
