There were no front line combat troops in the hex so reduction went quickly.
Have started naval bombardment runs on Tokyo and am prepping for the first deliberate attack. There are 900+ LCUs in Tokyo.
The only bases on Honshu still in Japanese hands are Osaka (L3 forts), Nagoya (L2 forts), Hirosaki Aomori (L4 forts) and Tokyo (presumed L9 forts). Ashikawa on Hokkaido fell yesterday and 3 armies are now advancing into Sapporo.
Have two months to take the remaining Japanese bases.

Wow - that's quite a haul! How many aircraft total does your Intel report say were destroyed on the ground last turn?
Can the AI re-create air units at the other bases it still has?

Congrats Hans.
Your end game is indeed very much a stock scenario on steroids; even that sort of statement understates
1) A very interesting mix from planes destroyed.
As I recall ( not sure just memory ) - 93 Biplanes - 176 twin boon experimental Japanese Lightnings that never actually flew - and look and behold - 224 Messerschmidt Jets
[8D]
In regular games - stock AI updated - where I have twice taken Tokyo for example the ratio was anecdotally reversed or even slimmer. i.e. a hand full of the Ki 201s
Wow.
I am unsure what 'economic production boost' your scenario AI gets but wow.
2 Question
Do you have a tracker installed or intel monkey ?
I was just curious if you are even able to estimate Allied Ground forces total casualties ?

RE: Fall of Yokohama/Yokosuka....
I don't use Tracker or Intel Monkey.
The AI is either very good at advancing research or early arrival of jets is just hard coded into the Ironman scenarios.
Have been shooting down Karyu's for a very long time. P80s especially make mincemeat out of them, but P47Ns do just fine as well.
I find KI-95s to be tougher than Karyus.
Can grab a screenshot of the Intel screen to show totals of losses for both sides.
Will also reload an older save to get a count of total planes destroyed on ground the turn Yokohama fell to satisfy BBFanboys curiosity. The only operational bases not invested by the Allies are Hakodate at the tip of Hokkaido and Sapporo. The plane count did go up at Hakodate after Yokohama fell.

The planes destroyed on the field when the base fell are recorded as Ops losses, not Destroyed on Field.
The count was just over 10k.

I guess planes on CAP don't count as sorties based on the A2A kills. (more kills than sorties) Never realized that though makes sense based on how the game engine works.

I just... I mean... wow.
Sat here thinking about all the witty jokes that could be made about 10k planes going in one turn, in one hex, in one battle.

I've decided on my reply: "That still only counts as one!"

Thanks for posting that Hans! The numbers of aircraft lost on both sides is incredible, as is your VP score! I can see where the amount of action in each turn at this level of difficulty would keep you engaged to the bittersweet end! Well done! [&o][:)]ORIGINAL: HansBolter

RE: Fall of Yokohama/Yokosuka....
Before I invested both Tokyo and Yokohama the AI would switch back and forth between them as to which was its main base for the remaining balance of its air force that wasn't on Hokkaido. Hokkaido was the last of the Home Islands to be invaded and all bases are not yet invested. Sapporo's air field is suppressed and I am only a couple of days from investing the base. Hakodate is the only remaining active air base besides Tokyo and I shut down Tokyo with 800+ B17s on March 30th.
I would bomb the living snot outta Tokyo's air field and the AI would move most of the planes to Yokohama. I would then bomb the snot outta Yokohama and the planes would move back to Tokyo. This went on until I invested both, which happened when the bulk of the remaining air force was at Yokohama. There are only a few hundred planes at Tokyo, so what happened at Yokohama wiped out the bulk of the air force.
Oh yea, Truk was also still an active airfield as I bypassed it and left it untouched the entire game. A few days ago my Death Star shut it down with two days of coordinated strikes by every bomber in the fleet.

Something about not enough horses and oxen to move the planes because the Allied blockade made food shortages and the populace ate the critters?ORIGINAL: Cheesesteak

The Ironman scenarios give the Japs TONS of stuff to lose. I've sunk 4,800+ ships.
I did slow play 43 and early 44 doing my best not to break the AI as I have never had a game where the AI remained viable into the late game and desperately wanted to experience the 45 time period.

The AI certainly wont be able to fly off the handle like you just did. They'll have to be a bit grounded in their response.

Think of all of those planes would have flown as Kamikazes . . .
