PBEM

Post by vex »

Really like SPWAW 5.01 even though several years ago I said I would never play a turn based game again. Kudos.

PBEM - Doesn't seem to work after a few turns. I've read some of the posts but making sure the game is fully saved and replaying the last turn doesn't really help (this causes other weird problems besides the typical unable to load/find game one). Can you play without encryption while still playing PBEM? Has there been a solution to this problem yet?

One other anomoly. We were playing a game where a bunch of jagpanthers encountered a bunch of russian BT-7s. The jagpanther scored dozens of pointblank hits on the bt-7s without a kill and the jagpanthers were immobolized and killed by several hits from the bt-7s with their wimpy 45mm. ??? both me and the other player think there must be something wrong, is anyone out there capable of verifying these files?

Thanks

THe problems with pbem seem related to the encyrption routine - paying without passwords as a regular" save game seems to have far fewr problems, though we have not been able to reliably recreate the load fail game problems some have encountered.

a couple of things is to save the the game before you end turn and then copy that save file to another directory, then end your turn. IF the .rec file has size 0 then ther eis a problem and go back and copy the pre-turn end save and try it again. Since I have not been able to get a 0 size .rec file, I don't know if this will fix it but it should.

45 will get through the flank of JPanthers, but if you are getting "dozens of bounces" off BT's sounds like armor toughness might be adjusted? Out of 20 point blank firings of Jpanthers against BT-7s I got 13 one shot kills, 3 damaged and killed by 2nd shots, 4 damaged and abandoned immediately.

The PBM program offered on the download page is a great help to PBEM games. Does all the finding, zipping, unzipping, playing, and sending of the files. Without this, me and my gamer buds probably wouldn't PBEM.....

Only one problem so far....and may not have anything to do with the PBM program. As the creator of the battle, I am usually Player One. I have, on 2 occasions, created the battle, purchased my forces, and sent the files to my opponent. He makes his purchases, then goes to deploy.....and none of the VHs are shown to him. The "green blobs" on the overview map show him approximate location, but on the actual map, he can see none of the flags. I, on the other hand, can see all the flags after he sends the files back with his deployment done.

Any ideas why Player Two unable to see VHs? Preferences on both ends are the same (yes, he has the objective flags turned on...that was my first thought), we play with passwords, and all historical settings set to default.

Flash neither side should be able to see the Vhexes or deployment bounderies durning the purchase phase .. you have to exit the buy menu to see the exact location of the Vhexes and deployment boundires ..
since you buy then he buys and depolys he should see the Vhexes when he deploys but not from the buy screen...
at least that is how it has been in all my PBEM games

Thanks for all the info. I will try the PBEM program on the download page and post if i have similar problems.

As far as the jagpanther vs. the bt7, maybe i just rolled snake-eyes a dozen times in a row, or maybe .... it's good to see that it was an isolated incident.
