Get Waterloo for the Matrix Christmas Sale?

Forum dedicated to the Scourge of War Game set during the Napoleonic Wars. Scourge of War: Waterloo follows in the footsteps of its American Civil War predecessors and takes the action to one of the most famous battles in history. It is by far the most detailed game about the final battle of the War of the Seventh Coalition.

Yep - I'm still playing it regularly and there are a bunch of people here:

who do multi-player *very* regularly.

It's worth using their mod as it makes the game operate in a much more realistic manner.

How's the AI?

Also, are the DLCs worth while as well?

I would be cautious getting this if you're running Windows 10. I got it this morning and followed all of the steps to get it to run in Windows 10. It's constantly crashing to desktop. Some people seem to be able to run in Windows 10, but other who've posted still appear to have the issue and from the replies by what appears to be support the answer is "It works in Windows 10", but it still appears that the issue is not solved for some people using Windows 10...

I've replied to a post about Windows 10 compatibility and waiting for a response, but for now I have a base game and DLC what won't run.

Hopefully I can get a refund...

Now that I got this up and running and played it I can say without hesitation to buy it, especially on sale. I'm a huge Total War fan and this puts Total War to shame. I still love Total War, but this is in a class of its own. I now own this as well as all the DLCs.

I now also own all of the Gettysburg series been playing those and they too are in a class of their own.

There is a learning curve, but once you take the time to learn it, you will be well rewarded. I find the AI to be very good. In fact the AI often controls your forces and does a good job.

In Total War you have far too much command and control. You can move units around like Panzers that's not realistic.

I don't find the graphics in SOW to be a problem. They may not be as beautiful as TW, but you're playing in zoomed out mode most of the time and even zoomed in its not that bad. They used sprites in SOW for a good reason anyway. If you do have a powerful system you can do some tweaks to improve the looks.

Some of the battles are very difficult, in fact I think they may be unwinnable? Still loads of fun to play and the way the battles unfold is a thing of beauty to watch. The feel for the time period and the way battles were actually fought back then, just feels right.

I'm glad I got this on sale. I will gladly buy anything released for this period or the Civil War. If this publisher puts anything out for any other time period I would buy it.

Someone on youtube called this engine the best battle simulator ever created. I would agree...
