funny message, just sharing

Post by tolsdorff »

in my current PBEM, I got the following message
....
SS KVII leaving patrol zone to replenish at Colombo

Engine Room open to sea aboard SS KXVII
...

I cannot find anything wrong with the boat, damage is minimal (2/0, 0/0, 1/0, 0) but max speed is 8. According to the editor, max speed should be 13.

Nothing earth-shattering, but I never got this message before.

edit: Ah. I misread the KXVII for the KVII. The KXVII hit a mine and sank.

Game imitates life:
HrMs K XVII (Lt.Cdr. Henri Charles Besançon, RNN) was mined and sunk off the Island of Tioman in position 03º10'N, 104º12'E on or around 21 December 1941. All 36 crewmembers went down with the ship.

To answer the max speed issue: if the TF is set on Cruise speed, it will show that as the maximum speed and not show that there is a higher max speed at all (a bit misleading). If the TF is switched to Mission or Full Speed, it will show the maximum speed you saw in the editor.

Johann could've fixed it.

He was waiting for the damage to be under water so he could have a bath while fixing it. Alas, he waited too long this time...[:(]

The end of that movie is truly heart breaking - even for an AFB.

I have heard both 75% and 80% figures - same as for 8th AF bomber crews.

There were 31.000 sea-going u-boat men, 25.870 remained at sea. There names are inscribed in a big monument. Source for the numbers: U-Boot-Museum at Cuxhaven, Germany.
