More German WW2 Studies by US Army

Post by aspqrz02 »

I was aware of the US Army's Centre for Military History but the last time I checked out their website (probably 10+ years ago) there was relatively little material available on it ...

The document I posted a link to the other day ('The German Campaign in Russia - Planning & Operations [1940-42]') prompted me to look again - and, while not quite the mother load, there is much much more available online now ...

https://history.army.mil/catalog/browse/title.html

Is the general catalogue listing, which includes some WW2 German studies which will probably be of some degree of interest ...

German Armored Traffic Control During the Russian Campaign (CMH Pub 104-17)

German Defense Tactics Against Russian Breakthroughs (CMH Pub 104-14-1)

German Tank Maintenance in World War II (CMH Pub 104-7)

There's also a two volume study of US Logistics in WW2 -

Global Logistics and Strategy: 1940-1943 (CMH Pub 1-5)
Global Logistics and Strategy: 1943-1945 (CMH Pub 1-6)

They're listed alphabetically, so just scroll down to the 'G's'

There are over 600 pubs available online and a fair chunk are on WW2 topics.

Even better, in the 'Out of Print' section ...

https://history.army.mil/html/bookshelv ... print.html

... are the following titles available for download ...

German Antiguerilla Operations in the Balkans (1941-1944)

The German Campaigns in the Balkans

Airborne Operations: A German Appraisal

Rear Area Security in Russia: The Soviet Second Front Behind the German Lines

I had a look at the logistics section of The German Campaigns in the Balkans and it spells out some of quite difficult problems the Germans had to deal with and how they had to deal with them as best they could ... without having a magic wand to smooth them over.

Real world stuff!
