Question about encirclement

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Question about encirclement

Post by crazydave1066 »

Do you have to have a pocket with 100% encirclement, meaning a unit covering every possible escape hex, or is there a way to get enemy troops to surrender with only most of the surrounding hexes covered? Creating a big pocket with 100% encirclement seems impossible

U dont need a unit covering every hex. But u need one full turn of the units in the pocket cut off from supply. That way when your infantry engage them they wont rout out of the pocket. Instead will eventually surrender in combat.

U can also break your divisions down to regiments (3 units) by pressing b. If u need to spread units around a pocket.

Dang I tried creating several pockets in my 1941 scenario game and was excited to capture thousands of men, but when I ended the turn and began the next one, the AI had broken out of all but one pocket :/ any advice for making pockets tight enough that they don't break out?

Well it is about supply, converted hexes etc so try and push the front line away from the pocket so if one of your units is dislodged the enemy is still isolated
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

Never mind guys. Just captured over 100,000 troops in what I thought was a broken pocket. My campaign is off to a good start [8D]
