Weather Rolls

Post by Michael T »

@Alvaro.

Do weather rolls occur at the start of the Axis turn OR at the end of the Allied turn?

If the former please change to the later.

Start of Axis turn.

I almost put in an option for each side's turn but I saw what that does to WIF games. One but of bad luck like Germans get rain 3x in a row, Soviets get snow 3x in a turn can blow up a game.

I know you are on the same page as myself regarding anti cheating.

It would make much more sense to do the die rolling for weather at the end of the Allied turn. That way the Axis can't reload until they get the desired weather result. Naturally the weather result would not be known to the Allied player either.

Doing secret weather rolls in the previous turn is a well established anti cheat method. I have to say I am *very* surprised WP does not do it this way already.

Please address this issue Alvaro.

the reason this is being mentioned, is flavius in his AAR against another player ended up with 5 turns of clear weather in november-january. allowing his opponent to easily invade britain.

I am putting something special in the game that will tell players if this is an original scenario or modified.

Only I will be able to save games with this flag.

If there is cheating in multiplayer it's because someone modified the base scenario.

just to confirm alvaro, theres no way someone can reload a turn as axis in multiplayer and get different weather results?

1) they load the turn
2) get unfavorable weather
3) exit game
4) load back into multi server
5) reload turn again.
6) get better weather

is this a possibility?

from my testing it is not.

WiF has no alternate Weather unless it's end of turn.

If Impulse1 (Axis or Allied) is X Weather, it sticks to the impulse of the other.
Just felt to clarify.

It is good that 1 turn has same weather though!

If it is multiplayer they can but it will show in the multiplayer server for me. So in Flavious's case if he told me before he resigned I could see the previous turn and how many downloads his opponent did. I think the Matrix server tracks it.

There is only a 10% chance of clear weather in Dec, Jan, Feb in France/UK area. So if someone has all those 3 months as clear.

1 / 10 ^ 6 chance of happening = 1 in 100,000 if my math is right.

Why not just do the weather roll in the allied turn and hide it?

It's so simple. It's what other devs do. WITE is that way. It prevents reloading for better weather entirely.

Pretty sure if your tell your opponent before hand or during there is no crisis there. I had a Code 8 Error earlier in a Multiplayer game I think I am losing. We all have issues and we all have valid reasons. If the opponent is not understanding, not a good one to have...

There are certainly times for legitimate reloads, like lost turns, bugs etc. It's happened to me as well. And an accompanying explanatory email is fine.

Had I known this could be tracked without resigning, I would have paused. But I was on tilt yesterday after catching this absolutely flagrant, obvious and game breaking cheating and wanted nothing more to do with it. This wasn't even subtle. It was blatant and outrageous. And a total waste of my time.

Yes there are legitimate reasons for reload.
A prime example that happened to me is production misclick.

A detail of tech level and type of thing you produced, including an 'undo' function in the same turn would help a lot. It happened once I built a new tank unit, but breakthrough - simply because I forgot to click on Heavy Armour type... The only thing you can do is close the game and restart the turn.

Ok so I looked at the code and now I remember I did put this feature in already to prevent reloads for good weather from happening. When you end your turn it advances the side, rolls the weather, and does production. The only thing that happens on the new turn is that it calculates supply for the moving player.

So there is no way to reload a game to change the weather.

So in the future if the game you are playing is not an original scenario a message will appear in the output logs

### Game is not original WarPlan Scenario

This will apply to any future started game in my next upload. No I can't do it at the PBEM screen because that requires downloading all the games to check them and I am sure you all don't want to wait for 5m. If you get into a PBEM game and the output log says the above when you start your turn you know this isn't an original scenario. All custom scenarios should have their own names.

Current games this won't apply and you will always get that message. Or players who haven't upgraded.

Probably I will wait till the next official patch to do this so there aren't any accusations of sabotage.
