Late june and you are at the gates of Leningrad, not far from Moscow and breaking in on the Crimea. It seems "Early Barbarossa" is working well for you?

Yes, looks to be quite a help. Still very much learning HvH, I thought working along the ports would be good but in retrospect would have been better pushing strong in the center and leaving Leningrad.

Killed 8 Inf corps and 2 Armies this turn, Soviets must be under a bit of pressure.

Yes it was disconserting to see how easily the armies shattered. They were only attacked twice and took like 35% losses and shattered. At least 7 turns of clear weather left really not sure how that is going to work out. Soviets have a fair amount of units but they cannot die as easily as that.

I hadn´t studied the weather charts if I had known that the chance for clear weather in May was so big I probably would have retreated from the Pskov line. One of many lessons learnt [:)]

Thanks, didn't notice you were editing the title.

That is a deep and quick thrust, Russians will have to find your brakes for you if you haven't already lost momentum?

No lost momentum that I can see. There are at least 4-6 turns of more clear weather and
we are already fighting for Leninggrad, Moscow, Kharkov and Rostov and I can easily see all 4 of them fall. I don´t know the situation "on the other side of the hill" , I have not even played vs the AI, but from my point of view you can not really stand and fight. The Germans have more and better units and Russian units fall apart so easily and you don´t get after the initial wave all that many more units so you cannot lose too many. And there is only so much Russia you can retreat into. I seriously consider retreat to Voronezh Don line at least it will require a lot of garrisons maybe stretch the Axis a little bit but Russian Economy would take a serious hit so not sure if it´s doable.

This is the first turn I will try to make a stand in front of Moscow and Rostov with German infantry in range I am scared to open my July turn [:)].

With this said everything comes with a price. In this case a very dedicated Barbarossa has led to the Western Allies (Britain) hopefully clearing out North Africa almost 2 years before historical date and have invaded Sardinia at least for now and Britain is in good shape. The problem is that everyone knows that the eastern front is the one that matters the most. So I think the Axis happily pay the price.

Ah well lots of rambling back to the front! [:)]

Take the third hex adjacent to Leningrad, all set up for the assault next turn.
Big push on Moscow begins, 7 Panzer corps.

South.

Over the Mius, took heavy losses here and no kills but over the river and hope the Soviets are not strong enough to counterattack.

Break into the Crimea.

Killed 2 corps and an army this turn.
Overall losses were 146 for 59 - my first heavy losses of the game, the early turns were much more in Axis favor.

Trying to take back Sardinia, forgot to take a screen shot. And gradually losing Vichy Africa.

The July turn not as bad as I expected and some German units now look a bit tired so I felt a little bit better again then I saw in the weather charts that September is 100% clear so at least 5 more clear turns and mood sank a bit again [:)]

One more thing. We gave the army defending Leningrad title Hero of the Sovietunion and Elite status took its strength up to 10 unfortunately the mass bombings will probably mean it was a waste of an upgrade but maybe willmake some difference.

South.

Crimea cleared except for Sevastapol, which am leaving for now.
Take Voroloshilovgrad.
Looks like the area around Kursk is thinly defended so move extra troops there. Am thinking the Soviets are fairly thin on the ground.

Looks like Axis can crush through using air support and Panzers in a couple of areas at a time and at the same time exploit and areas with weak defenders just using infantry corps.

Loss ratio was about 2:1

Maybe someone interested how the front looks like this is after the Allied August 1 turn.

Situation is dire. Leningrad fell easier then I thought it would. Did cost a bit but fell fairly easy. Within 2 turns Rostov and Moscow will be gone most likely. I am not sure but I think there is 4 turns left in August and September before any chance of some weather relief. On the plus side many German units especially the armour ones are looking a bit worn down.

I am still thinking. Maybe when 41 is finished I post some thoughts about the war in the east.

Leningrad offensive is over so both sides shifting troops away. Not sure what to do with the Finns, defend the Leningrad area with them or maybe somewhere more critical during the blizzard.

Advance with one unit adjacent to Moscow, most of the Panzers are pretty trashed but will have the Luftwaffe to help here next turn.

This looks to be a critical period of the game, do enough damage now and the Soviets will be less a threat in the winter.

Soviets had retreated to Rostov and my panzers are too weak to attack. Find some weak defenders East of Kharkov and pocket an army.

Kill 1 corps and 1 Army this turn. Loss ratio about 2:1.

Quiet move, just take another couple of hexes around Moscow.
Maybe assault next turn.
Finns advance into empty space.

Kill the Army pocketed last turn.
Get over the Don next to Rostov with a strong Panzer unit, maybe get Rostov next turn.
Losses were about 4:1 this turn with less attacks at mediocre odds.

To the north advance a couple of hexes, overrunning a fighter.
To the south have pocketed 3 armies.
