Presumably if the Germans accept French surrender, let the French fleet go away and they dow Vichy it increases US mobilization and moves Spain and Turkey toward Allies.
However once US is in the war doesn't seem to be a downside to Axis dow on Vichy.

Is it true Vichy has no defenders in metropolitan France if attacked?

They have one Corp in marseilles... and will surrender when Vichy is occupied. So lightly defended against an allied landing, and no defense against the Germans.

Yeah a Normandy invasion to Vichy is really easy. Guess I should have occupied Vichy as Germans when they landed.
