Quick Battles

Post by Rayfer »

This has come up before and on the Steam forums...the lack of diversity in the choice of aircraft, subs and surface craft in Quick Battles. The answer given here in a prior post and on Steam says you can edit the HTML and LUA files of an already created Quick Battle but gives no details as to how one goes about doing that. This is a an area of computer expertise that I suspect many of us don't have. Is there a detailed description on how one goes about doing that? Thanks.

IMO, the quick battles aren't a scenario editor. Its there just to give a quick way to jump into a battle. Its one of those features I hoped the devs wouldn't implement because I knew eventually people would want and expect to be a scenario editor lite. I provides a great staring point to expand on, but I sure hope the devs don't take time away from longer term and more strategic plans to do more with it.

btw, try putting this in the feature request thread.

If you have actually tried to modify one and are getting stuck somewhere let me know and I'll help out.

Make a copy of the files and stash them somewhere as a backup, then tinker with the html and Lua files. You can't break it (beyond it simply not working) and they're specifically written to be easy to read and manipulate.

A good first project would be to simply add some more options to the A2A QBG. Look at the Form.html file, copy one of the entries in the aircraft selection code and then change the DBID and LoadoutId to something different. There. You have another option. No need to touch the Lua file.

This should give you a basic idea of how to change things. Tinker, explore and make it your own. If you run up against something insurmountable let us know.

I've come across an issue. I've tried the ASW quick battles, and the Arleigh Burke returns an error. I poked around in the settings, and I notice the HTML has ship #2067 (Arleigh Burke), aircraft #4796 (?), and helicopter loadout #2787. I changed the aircraft to #4356, the USA MH-60R with LAMPS III, and it works just fine.

Is there some way to use the database number to look up the entry? I can't find out what aircraft #4796 is that is causing the error.

That's thoughtful of you. But shouldn't this be a basic requirement for this game? Considering many of us paid twice for it? And now that the devs secured some defense contracts, you would think they are capable of, you know, hiring more people?

The quick battle works. There is no obligation to expand it.

Hey WG,

Looks like KLAB sorted you out on the other thread with the listing of DB items. Seems likee you've got the hang of editing the QBG files, if you run into anything else or have other ideas for expanding the QBG scenarios and need some advice or help let me know!
