Weather visibility

Post by Magpius »

Written this elsewhere in my mod thread, but I can't see any weather.
2 reinstalls and opening unmodded scenarios, no effect.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
It's really frustrating.

Can't see weather in the mod?
Can't see in the game?
Can't see weather on a train?
Elaborate please to keep me sane!

Thanks Dr Seuss.
Unfortunately most of the above.
First I thought it may have been an alpha/ opacity issue with my terrain or tiles.png files.
Then I noticed it was not working in the unchanged scenario folders.
Did a fresh install into the default folders.
Same issue: no weather.
All other overlays work fine.

I just tested a made up weather.png and it worked fine.

What software are you using to do the images?

Are you sure you have the weather toggle on?

Using GIMP for mods.
Weather toggle is showing highlight on/off.
I'm stumped.
Will try another install...

You are using PNG files for the weather correct?
You are putting them in the scenario you want the custom images?

Post up the error log so I can get a hint at what is happening. I wonder if this is an access issue.

Yes and yes.
The error only occurs once.
When I restart it's gone, but the weather issue remains.
Will get that error log.

(When reinstalling, I have also cleaned out any references to warplan and Kraken software via regedit.)

Game just hangs unless I control-q
quit the game, then it starts okay,
what files do you need to look at?

If this can't be fixed, is there any other way I can see weather effects to a hex without the graphic toggle?

I can concur that with 1.00.05 and a brand new fresh install before updating to 1.00.05 using Magpius's mod made the weather not show up, even though his mod did not have a weather.png file in it.

I then removed all of his .png files form the 1939 folder, and it reverted back to the normal map but the weather still does not show up in game.

I even moved the weather.png file from the folder called "_New Custom Images" into the 1939 campaign folder and this didn't do anything either.

I think you are right in thinking it's an access issue, for some reason the game is no longer looking for the weather.png file

As far as his png files they all look fine and work in the game and he never modded the weather.png file to begin with.

OK.... I think I have some idea what is happening, for some reason there isn't any adverse weather, everything is showing "clear" and so that would be the reason there isn't any weather graphic being shown.

I've started every campaign, ran them through a few turns from the hotseat and no matter what the weather is clear in every hex every turn, this is the issue. Is it possible to turn the weather on or off for a campaign?

If you are meaning the button on the very top row, the one that is controlled by the hotkey W then yes, I've clicked it many times.

Please understand Alvaro that when I move the cursor over EVERY hex the weather in the window at the bottom left shows "CLEAR".

The problem isn't in the .png, the issue is that in EVERY campaign, in EVERY hex the weather is CLEAR. And since every hex has clear weather there will be no weather graphic shown either way.

What could become corrupted to make every hex and every campaign clear?

As far as my installation, the main game folder is under D:\Warplan and the Campaign folders are under Documents\mygames\warplan\Campaigns

and here's mine. (my emphasis, may be relevant?, although why would only weather be affected and nothing else? As game runs fine.)
