Stupidly Expert Allies

Post by Xsillione »

Hi, this will be an Expert allies run with a small twist: In all events, we take the wrong choice, instead the usual right one (in some case it may be not obvious what is the wrong choicer, but I will try.)

Here you can find videos of the campaign (with Hungarian narration, sorry), but will make a small writeup for each session.

First Session: Fall of Poland

Not much to do at the start but watch the destruction of the polish forces (losing both cav and our mechanized getting blocked, so no german or slovakian incursion of fun.) Boosting the Warsaw Gar to full health, and doing some damage to the german planes. In the second turn they clear Warsaw but leave it unoccupied, so we get a third turn, but even with a fresh garrison, Poland doomed. Noting on the western front, not even in the waters, as the german ships don't come out to play and let me raid the swedish ore as much as I want.

In China we got lucky and bring down the overstrengthed unit south down to 7, also hitting some HQ and Planes to cause as much economic damage as I could without losing too much myself.

Events:
BEF: Obvious no, the French can hold without the UK troops easily. So to not waste then in the mainland, we slowly bring them up to use them in Norway later.

Soviet Invasion of Eastern Poland: No need to waste fuel on this, the Germans will Honor the Agreement and give us our fair share of Poland (no, they will not, they kept the entire country.)

Viceroy of India: Went with let them talk, we won't need their money and units (one of the less clear, since this way I get a few units in Africa, but lose lots of mpp for a year or more.)

Hanoi-Kunming Railway: Clear no, the US can spend that 90 mpp way better than the chinese would use that 60/turn for the rest of the war. (This is really devastating, China lost 30% of its income.)

Irish Ports: We needs those ports, the UK simply cannot store its entire navy otherwise during wartime. (Losing a few more % of US readiness, if the japan AI won't attack PH it would be way worse, but still lots of MPP lost.)

Winter War: Soviet Russia needs that island and some more snowy area. (Once more less than clear, but this attack will lower our readiness and force Finland to join the Axis, and we can later choose to not learn from it.)

Second Session: War in China

With the Polish surrender the European theater is almost silent, some movement and a few shot with planes and ships, but nothing interesting.

In China the war is much more fierce:
South we cut of Pakhoi and slowly clear of the HQ, retaking the city and fully cutting of Japanese corps.
In the eastern area we chase some HQs and try a daring attack toward Tsinan to cut off the entire Japan army, not reaching the city first, but the AI left it unoccupied for the next turn, so we just walk in and succeeding our main goal, at some price, losing a unit or two. We even managed to strike the carrier Suryu in port, so we are good, but the chinese economy is abysmal without the US help, so we simply cannot reinforce everythin, replace anything and research is out of the question. If the japanese reach inf two we could be in big trouble.

Events:
Spanish Engineers: France don't need cheap units to defend itself, fully dressed or non.

Polish Soldiers in France: Still don't need cheap units.

Help Finland: No Help for the fins (This one could be argued, that wasting money on the expedition would be the wrong one, but that could cause Finland not to join the axis.)

Malaya: Japan would not dare to attack us, so we don't need to spend money for a proper defence.

Third Session: Low Countries

Some naval action in Europe, in which we sunk the Deutschland and a destroyer, later a sub and damaging a second sub. Then the Phoney war ends with lots of DOWs and a quick conquering of the low countries. Germany clears out the first line of french defenders, while we try to defend Paris at least. During this the UK lands near Bergen, but for some misfortunes, manages to not take the city, even after knocking out the defending garrison. So we switch france for norway.

First actions in Africa, the UK troops reaching the Italians, but no combat so far, while the South Africans going for Ethiopia. The Italian fleet attack out, and lose a few ship, sadly the sub slips away.

In China the war progresses slowly, we take Wuhan, but pushed out from Tsinan (unit takes no damage and has 6 str, but still retreats from the city.) Luckily we managed to capture Tsingyuan and maintain the cutoff of the entire Japan army, but we losing an army for this and maybe even more soon. All depends on the cleanup speed, thew fresh and supplied units will take us out without the entire Chinese army. We also managed to hit the Suryu again, down to 2 str now.

Events:
UK Home Guard: We need to boost our defensive troops on our impenetrable island behind the invincible fleet.

Occupying Iceland: We need more Islands. (Almost useless island and gives an extra costly choice later for a bomber without any real target)

Mistakes of the Winter War: The Soviet Army made no mistakes, comrade. (This will hurt as so badly)

Very fun. Did you ever finish this? I would think playing China without that US aid would be horrible.

Also, how did you damage the Soryu in 1939? And how did you take Wuhan? I'm impressed.
