German Tank Tactics in Malaysia

Post by Disco Duck »

I knew the British got rolled in Malaysia but I didn't know the Japanese used German tank tactics to make it happen. I guess obsolete tanks are only obsolete if there is something besides armored cars and ATR's to oppose them.

Two Aussie 2 pounder AT guns knocked out 10 tanks even though the Colonel told them that they did not need the guns there. The Sergeant and the Corporal stayed, then knocked out the tanks. Officers is dumb . . .
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Japanese tanks were old, but not obsolete for the theater they were used in. They hold they ground quite OK against much newer US tanks designs in Luzon

Operating big or medium tanks in the kind of low infrastructure environment typical of Asia on that time has its logistical challenges (narrow roads if at all, bridges with light weightloads). Notice the US kept using light tanks on Asia (M24) well into the 50s
