Isolated unit air transport

Post by mssm45 »

Is it possible to air transport isolated units?

The unit is on an isolated airfield and all transport have 0 miles flown.
The unit has still 1 MP and can be selected in F9 mode.

When Shift-right click on the target hex, it says that no transport are available which is not the case.

Any clue?

looking at 17.3.8, there are few quirks to the requirements:
Air group units must have 0 miles flown and not already be assigned to drop an airborne unit in the amphibious phase in order to air transport a unit.
The air transport of units from a hex with a friendly air base unit to a hex with or adjacent to another friendly air base unit can be conducted only by transport air group units with aircraft that have a maximum load rating of at least 2000.
There is a limit of two sorties that may be flown to conduct the transport mission, so if more than two sorties are required, the air transport of that unit is not possible.

So the sort of thing that could be the reason - you fail one of the 3 tests above or a lack of fuel at the airbase.

I know its possible (in theory) as a few AARs discuss it as a trick to use with the German FJ formations left behind to defend a city.

Thanks, finally it was a range issue.

The left behind unit must be within the transport 50% range.
