Registering Serial Number

I bought my copy of SC - WWII from an online 3rd party and then successfully activated the game with Steam. I have had no problems playing the game as a single player, however, when it comes to playing multiplayer, my opponent cannot identify my user name to return his move - see thread Error connection 29 - I have checked my Matrix account and the game does not show as being registered, I am thinking this may be the issue.

How do I obtain a serial number for my purchased game?
