Fog of war ??

Warplan is a World War 2 simulation engine. It is a balance of realism and playability incorporating the best from 50 years of World War 2 board wargaming.

Fog of war ??

Post by MrLongleg »

First of all as a long term SC player I have to say that I love many things about this game, e.g. automatic reinforcements and updates and a more realistic supply system.

But the fog of war implementation really bothers me. How can I see a British fleet moving 1000's of km away without having any assets in the area. Gone are the days where you had to actually find the enemy first. This is like a board game where fow would be hard to implement. Now the only uncertainty is the fleet composition. No more carefully planned ambushes. No more guessing where the enemy ships are.

Same is true for land units. Since I know exactly how many land units the Brits have and where they are deployed planning Sea Lion is much less risky. If possible in any way I would love a more realistic implementation of the fog of war, where i can only see things in my spotting range with greater uncertainty about composition and strength the further away enemies are.

No commander in the history of war ever had this perfect level of knowledge. More uncertainty makes things more interesting.

There is a post on this already on the forums on the advantages and disadvantages of the FoW system I employ.
