[Fixed DB482] RIM-66M-2 SM-2MR Blk IIIA Range Question

Post by KenMech »

hey all,

I am playing the scenario Liancourt Rocks and the Wang Geon [#2385 DDH 978 Wang Geon [KDX-2 Mod]
(South Korea - 2014)] has fired several RIM-66M-2 at my Flight Utter 7 which are a pair of F-15Js.
I appear to be outside the range of the SAMs. Looking in the DB it shows the range of the RIM-66M-2
to be 50nm. From the save the F-15Js are well outside that range. I was wondering if I am
missing some info that allows the RIM-66M-2 to shoot beyond the missile's stated range.

Thanks
KenMech

Database figure might be typing error.

Online search gives: Range: 40 to 90 nmi (74 to 170 kilometers)

Straight from the US Navy:

https://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_disp ... =1200&ct=2

General Characteristics, SM-2 Block III/IIIA/IIIB Medium Range
Primary Function: Surface to air missile.
Contractor: Raytheon Missile Systems.
Date Deployed: 1981 (SM-2 MR).
Propulsion: Dual thrust, solid fuel rocket.
Length: 15 feet, 6 inches (4.72 meters).

Wingspan: 3 feet 6 inches (1.08 meters).

That might explain it.

Thanks for the quick reply Sardaukar,
I guess I should have done a little digging to find that info [:)]
I did wonder if that might just be a typo, I was just surprised that when I was
skirting the SAM ring I was fired upon.

I checked your save and it was indeed strange. So I started to dig up a bit more info about SM-2 Blk IIIA.

So basically, sim works as intended but it lies to you [:D]

I just checked the settings in the DB3K_482 database and for the RIM-66M-2 SM-2MR Blk IIIA it shows
Range vs Air = 2.0 to 90.0(nm).
Range vs Surface = 2.0 to 25.0(nm)

For some reason in that save, it shows 50nm.

But anyways, it's not a big issue.

I checked the scenario and the DB is not latest, when updated the RIM-66 shows the correct range out to 90nm.
