Thee Swedes play the Allies against the famous Warspite1 who has generously agreed to take on the Axis empires.

I begin playing as USA and CW. This might change if France falls.

The US setup is fairly standard and isn't really worth mentioning at this stage.

RE: News From the Front - 4 player game
I liked the HQ Movement optional. Really forces the players to think an impulse or two ahead, and consider their 'axis of advance', etc., I thought a little more like historical commanders would have to do. HQ-As zipping all over the place like orderlies carrying dispatches in a jeep doesn't always have the right 'feel', for me. Also gave more of a 5th Edition feel, before HQ-A counters existed. Then games were less likely to see-saw from Poland to the Urals and back again.
But so few people were willing to use that optional that it was cut completely from the newest rules. I would say that using HQ Movement and Railway Movement Bonus at the same time feels a little conflicting. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the HQs get ordered around, in certain campaigns/theaters at least. Doesn't make all that much difference in France, I think.

The title says 4 player game. Is warspite two players, or is there another Axis player?
I thought I knew how to play this game....

No, warspite1 takes on all three Axis empires. There are three Allied players. Me and peskpesk have recruited an old friend who join us as France.ORIGINAL: Courtenay
The title says 4 player game. Is warspite two players, or is there another Axis player?
CW + France -> Orm
USSR + China -> peskpesk
France -> GeneralAdvance
Germany + Italy + Japan -> warspite1
Our friend hasn't played MWIF at all and haven't played WIF for more than 20 years (or so I think anyway) and wanted to take on France as a challenge. After the fall of France we will reshuffle the Allied nations so that he will take over one of the other Allied major powers, and the CW, or US, player will take over Free France.
Edit: Late as usual. [:)]
Edit 2: Added GeneralAdvance as the French player.

I assume that we play with the standing order that no submarines will be included in port strikes on major ports. Until cancelled, in advance, that is.

Yes. War between USSR and Japan may only be declared if the aggressor has enough units to break the pact.ORIGINAL: warspite1
So to be clear, you mean that war can only be declared if the garrison values are exceeded yes?
.....
For clarification and my memory.
To break the pact you need 2:1 but the defensive garrison value is modified depending on year. So in reality the value needed is as follows.
No war in '39
4:1 in '40
2:1 in '41
1:1 in '42
2:3 in '43
1:2 in '44 and '45
