Fastest way to take out Soviets

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Fastest way to take out Soviets

Post by ThunderLizard11 »

Seems like Allies have a ton of units. What's best way to take down Soviets before Allies show-up on mass? What is best way to collapse Soviet MPP?

Delayed war with Russia until late '41. This game was on expert setting. The AI in Russia had so many units it got Axis bogged down. I'm looking for ideas on taking out the Soviets source of MPP quicker.

Hi there, and I can see the problem! I am not that experienced vs the AI (because it is too easy to beat once you work out how to game its strategic dumbness, tho tactically it is sharp and I don't like the expert setting cos it just throws more units at you). But, the insuperable problem always in these games is how the hell to get Russia to fold and die. I like, actually, that this is truly how it would have been: Nazi venture east was always going to fail even if, at some point, it turned into a kind of partisan war.

Anyways, moral history over.

Three tips for busting USSR

1) If you wait til late 41, you have lost already. I am playing a decent human player and launched an attack on Russia in, I think, late March 41? (I got a break in the weather and went for it, one fortnight earlier than planned). I am now stuck in May 42. I have Moscow and Stalingrad and Murmansk and Voroznevh and plenty besides (all taken by Winter 41). Did not try for Sevastapol. Leningrad has absorbed literally all my army and I MIGHT grind into it by end of 42. (I am toast, courtesy of dumb play by me in Med, but that's not at issue). So, against the AI, I reckon you could "win" vs Russia if you attack in April.

2) If your tech levels are not 2 inf and 2 armor when you attack, you will probably struggle. It might be worth delaying until May to get those. (Part of my calamity in Med was over doing the German commitment to beating russia at all costs). By 42, you need 3 armor and 3 ground attack. Watching 3 tac bombers at 3 bust a Russian Army is joy in mid 42.

3) From same opponent, who is much better than me, in a mirror game, they did a huge diplomatic effort vs Sweden and now as Russians I am facing Swedes from the North of Leningrad, the Finns are round the corner to the east w their HQ the Swedish Navy cleaned up the Baltic as well. Now, he will need it because he did not attack Russia until very late in 41. Only issue is I stuffed up the MEd as the Allies this time so German tanks will shortly appear at Baku. So, I guess, that is the third option - sth and north flanks. Be interesting to see if the AI can handle that.

ANyways, three ideas.
I still remember cardboard!
