Supplies in Iraq ?

Post by KarlXII »

I have invaded Iraq through soviet union and Iran and taken all ports around the persian gulf and I have supply lines back through Tehran and the Caucasus.

But my supply network stops building up at Baghdad and there is only 1 point of supply there for several turns. Do I have a too large army there to be supplied (around 15 units) or how can I remedy that ? My plan is to attack the allied from behind to relieve the preassure on my Italian army in Libya.

This is a port capacity issue. You can supply 160 supply points of units.

Just as a base you have 21 units and assuming no extra supply costs that is 630 supply cost. The tanks add more, the air adds more.

Hmm....So if I removed a lot of units would the supply network expand so I can continue my offensive ?
I would really like som sort of info/help telling me units are under limited supply due to port capacity.

And why don´t I get supply from my connection with Caucasus ? How do I know when the ports starts taking over regular supply networks through railroads ?

The rail lines are not connected between Persia and Iraq (at Basra if I am not mistaken).

They aren't connected anywhere between Peria and Iraq.

You could also buy a mountain of supply trucks. But that still isn't better than rail or port.

Remember this is a vast desert. Moving supplies around back then wasn't easy. Well what about Libya you ask. They used barges to run supplies up the coast as well as trucks.

Ok thanks. I now have withdrawn a third of my force and see the supply network growing again. I would really like som coloring on the supply map or units showing that the area are not receiving enough supplies or perhaps the ports being colored to show they are supplying at their maximum rate and still cannot supply the demand. It would help a lot.

Hmm....Where can I see the stockpile ? Is it the icon right to the naval anchor ? In that case it shows 5,8,9 in Kuwait, Basra and Bandar respectively. Just like any other inland cities.

In Tobruk and Benghasi when hitting the (S)upply key the ports are blue and I see Port Supply in upper right corner of the information bar. But no such text is visible in the ports in the Persian Gulf.

Most of the time that information is not visible in the three Persian Gulf Ports. It says "Urban Supply" and only once have I seen it changed to Port Supply. Does that depend on the weather or seasons ?

When you put your cursor over a hex, you get an info box in the bottom left corner of the map.

In it you can see who owns it, the hex number...stuff like that. What it also says is Port Supply:n 0: of 80

In this case it means that Tobruk can supply 80 strength points worth of units. As the port happens to be cut off, it's mostly at 0 because the unit in Tobruk is eating more supply then what is getting in.

Note that it does not give you this information if it is an enemy hex. Also if the port is hooked into a primary supply source, then it won't have any port supply. (doesn't need it then)

I have not fought in the persian gulf so I am not aware of any specifics for those ports...but these are the general rules.

Tobruk and Benghasi always show port supply and are blue marked when hitting the (S)upply key. But Kuwait, Basra and Bandar have only showed the blue mark once and port supply info once. Most of the time it does not show and instead of "Port supply" the text "Urban supply" is showned. How do I know if these three ports are hooked to a primary supply source when there are no connections north to Iran as stated before ? Also how can it differs that sometimes it shows port supply but most of the time Urban Supply ?

There is no such code that says "urban supply" in the game. So please look again and give the conditions so I can understand it better.

They should always show as blue (Correction - if no rail direct to home country). The information screen will say urban port.
You know they are hooked up to a major supply source from Germany because they are getting supplies and are blue when player controlled. There is no button (like convoys) that you can click to see the route taken. Naval units transport supplies there (from Germany) and the amount of supplies is based on the port size. They will get that amount of supplies, unless interdicted by air or Naval units.

Here is a pic of a port that is getting its supply directly from Germany. The rail can be traced back to Germany (Main Supply).

My apologies KarlXII,
An event in May 9th, 1941 will trigger Germany extending rail lines in Persia from Tabriz to Yerezan. Once this occurs it will make all the ports supplied from Germany. So I stand corrected, they may not always be blue. You can see from hovering my mouse over Kuwait, it's getting its supply from Main Supply.
