Russian Radars in Kaliningrad???

Post by BeirutDude »

Can anybody ID these radars? They are along the Barrier Island of Kaliningrad Near Les Dyunnyy or Rybachy. My guess is one is air search and one surface search but was wondering if anyone had a better idea?

Probably early warning / GCI radar domes. They are built also in other places in Kaliningrad area like this one:

I don't know what type of radars are there.

Those are just radomes - can't just ID what's inside when you don't see it. In the past those housed early warning radars which were to detect either ballistic missiles or planes. Most of those sites are now abandoned (not only in Russia, same for Germany for example), some even still have old radar inside, so sneaky tourists made photos:

Few are still active tho and of course got modernized, there are some new radars inside. What exactly is not publicly known of course. You can generally assume air surveillance radars. 1 was also deployed in Syria - there was the exact type of the radar that is in the radome somewhere, but I can't remember now where I saw that.

Yeah my thought as well. I'm trying to build the facilities/bases in Kaliningard but can't figure these to add them. Thanks.

Thanks, note the numerous military vehicles in the Google Earth Imagery. So still in use. They built a Voronezh-DM radar site about 17 km NW of Kaliningrad (Pionersky Radar Station). so I think these are maybe air search and possibly a surface search radar.

I'm not 100% sure but those seem to be pictures of that radar site. I guess they won't help to ID what is inside, but may help for other equipment in the area. You can see a couple of other antennas nearby, like 76N6 Clam Shell.

EDIT:

It seems those pictures show actually this site
