I had/have reservations on the OP post for it did imply about the costs to the site owner. From what I can tell the OP possibly owns "one game" from the Matrix store, yet wants Matrix to upend it's whole forum just to satisfy the OP's whims. That bothered me. OK other seasoned members have their gripes too, but none of us "pay" for what we/they are asking..!! Personally I'd rather Matrix invest in research and development of games we all would love to see.. Personally I have no problems with uploading and downloading stuff here even after the latest upgrade and have noticed that Matrix bends over backwards to help others with their site issues that don't require a site upheaval for the rest of us. I read the geek talk, a lot of which is apples and oranges to me, however I do know from past upgrades that just about every server Matrix has is affected, then in turn causes negative issues that seem to take forever to get resolved and I'd hate to see/read about it all over again. Thus I prefer status quo. Peace [:)]

The only people who like change, demand that they get it, and cry if they don't get it (without getting into politics) are babies. While some people might like the change, some people may not. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!)

I don't know if it was you or if you copied it from another thread, but I'm pretty sure I've read that response on this forum before. Hmm...

And this forum definitely needs work

@operating: Costs are a valid point but see it this way. Game developement for niches is also about building, keeping and engaging with the community. AARs, multiplayer forum games, guides and a generally alive community help keeping people with the hobby and the company. So updating a forum is an infrastructure investment paying off over time if done right.

I have written quite a number of posts and guides and AARs in this forum (see my signature) and can tell from experience that producing these is made more complicated than it needs to be, and this can cause one to migrate somewhere else or not post at all.

Also, the amount of games the OP owns or not owns has little to do with the validity of his points.

For more anecdotical evidence, I had to do allot of bug reports for WitE 1/2 testing. With modern forums I would copy the screenshot and insert it in my post and be done in a few seconds. With this forum I have to save the image, then click a few times on buttons to upload, and if I want multiple images per post I need to waste even more of my time. It can become quite demotivating after a while.

It is the same response also written in my thread about the same topic I linked above.

Here is the link to the same comment in the old thread, if you don't believe me: fb.asp?m=4674793
Frankly I find this type of one-liner replies somewhat rude, both to the OP and me (disagreeing in itself ofc completely fine).

Sorry my mistake,[:(] thought your comment following mine was directed towards me, thus the brief comment, don't wish to be a windbag when a short answer will do the trick .

I hope that during nearest 10 years this forum could get a super-innovational forum option named "spoiler". It's so damn annoying when I read WitP AARs without it because there are tonns of text in a combat log.

The forum's current software is a bit ancient. Its functional but outdated, as posted above is not very productive to create AAR's with using the forum's default tools. There is a 'trick' to over come this and I have posted this else where in subforms showing how you don't have to load up any images at all and instead use a hosting service for graphics and then using a small bit of html to paste that into a replay or message, its very simple and easy once you learn this 'trick' to bypass the current forum's restrictions on image sizes and what not.

Here is a pasted screen shot, the html looks like this:

Code: Select all

 [img]https://i.imgur.com/lIDnj7G.png[/img]

But when actually pasted in a message it looks like so (sorry for the size I have a 4k Monitor, so scroll to the right and the bottom to see the selected 'code'):

So yes, one day a software update should be implemented that removes this restricting. For example they recently updated GameSquad (mostly owned and controlled by a bunch of ASL (Advanced Squad Leader) freaks (lol) myself included) and all you have to do is drag and drop a picture into a message and wala your golden.

Things like that, under the hood so to speak, would be nice for some people. Some of us barely post pictures. But then again, I have yet to do an AAR.

I just don't like the look of the Slitherine forum. For me, it is hard to see where one post starts and stops compared to here.

I never played Advanced Squad Leader. My kittens would probably love to play with the game!

Sacrilege!

LOL

Any game's screen shot will do (using the BB code thing):

or

or

WitW

or

etc....

What you do Zovs works is a fair workaround. However, it costs extra time, and often image hosters delete/go out of business/suddenly charge 400USD and an amazing AAR loses all its pictures. My workaround on this site has been to open an image storage thread in the WitE mod section where I post all my images I want to links somewhere else. You have generous attachement limits there and the images saved there will remain as long as the actual AAR (as long as the Matrix forum exists).

It's a bad new. Advanced Squad Leader is a great game.

Have you ever played Heroes of Stalingrad?

I have played the original Squad Leader and some of the expansions.

I have not played Heroes of Stalingrad.

Right now, about the only modern computer war game that I play is really very simple and easy. It is called WITPAE.
