Bulgarian surrender conditions

Post by The Land »

When is Bulgaria meant to surrender? I took Sofia, and expected they'd fold at that point as I can't see any alternative capitals marked. But I they haven't! Have I missed something...?

Would like to know too, took almost the entire Bulgaria, only two cities remain in Bulgarian control, they have three units (one in each town and one Bulgarian HQ in Ottoman territory,)yet they still fight on.

Hi

If their capital falls then there is still a chance of them fighting on if they still have units in their home country, with the chance of them fighting on being 6% multiplied by the number of units within their own country. This is checked every turn.

There is an additional rule specific for Bulgaria:
The Bulgarians will however withdraw from the war if Germany’s National Morale falls below 10% and there are two or more Entente units within 2 hexes of Sofia.

Yep, i know that, but 10 turn passed since Sofia captured, and while they had 4-6 units at that time, now they are down to 2-3, and still not surrendered, so it is getting pretty hard to accept, that it is just bad luck. Maybe add an event line when surrender rolled, but not happened, so we know the numbers and know it was just bad luck.

It's amazing that I've been playing this series for about 3 years and still don't know some of these rules. Thanks for clarifying!

I think they have 6 or 7 units left, so not a surprise they're still in, and they should fold up before too long :) German NM is still pretty high. (If anyone's looking for the context of the question, it's in my AAR!)

I'm starting to get sceptical as well. It's been 4 or 5 turns and still no surrender. This is starting to have a probability of 1-2%.

I'll look at testing some savegames when I get a chance to see if surrender does happen.

So I've just loaded a save 5 times and ended a turn when Bulgaria has 4 units left, which should have a 76% chance of surrender. Plus 4 roughly comparable turns have passed in my AAR-game. So either Xsillione and I are both very unlucky, or there's a bug! Happy to send a save game file if I'm told where to send it.

In my Entente playthough Bulgaria surrendered after only has 3 units left (their capital was taken in the first turn Bulgaria joined the CP); the morale of them were all around 50%.

I assume that 4 units left (=76% chance of surrender) are still not enough for triggering the surrender event, but 3 units (=82% chance of surrender) will perhaps enough.

It's probably just bad luck as each turn and check is independent of the last turn, e.g. the game doesn't know how often it has checked to see if a country should surrender etc., but I'd be happy to take a look at the turn in question to confirm.

Thanks for the file and your persistence on this one!

It looks like we had some legacy code in there for minors to have a 50% check per unit instead of 6%, which goes back to our original SC2 WWI game, and the assumption is that this was connected to the fact that Serbia was a minor in those older releases and we didn't want her surrendering too early.

With that in mind, we'll remove that and put it back to 6% for WWI Minors and back also to what the Manual currently states.
