Reactions after First full Game- Axis is Tough...

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Reactions after First full Game- Axis is Tough...

Post by wargameplayer »

So clearly pretty easy to take out Poland and France but after that things get pretty brutal.

As the Axis player - you have to do just about everything correctly with few to no mistakes in order to progress much further. i.e. A successful sea lion.
UK does not have any kind of surrender event once you take say London and Manchester or even the whole the island. If you are not at war with anyone else- it still won't surrender or at least negotiate a deal. Meanwhile USA enters the war and knows the exact spot to land troops unguarded in England.

Japan VS China AI seems is a slug-fest the Japanese slowly lose. They do take over most of Asia pretty quickly tho I will give them that.

Despite a good sea lion, I was unable to make much progress in Malta or Even Egypt. I had a ton of good naval victories and had been using air power with upgraded naval attack to since a bunhc of the Brit fleet with about 10 UK ships and 9 German ships remaining in the theater. The UK didn't defend the homeland that well but they defended the pyramids with seemingly constantly populating troops. I got it to Alexandria then all of a sudden they started one shorting my troops.

I stupidly annexed Lithuania which bumped up the USSR invasion while I was still in England. I had a line formed tho and was pulling them back - then spring of 42 - man their economy was pushing out some upgraded Tanks /Troops. I had gotten them up to Estonia and about 60% into the max historical Russian advance when my lines started to fall apart. Just plain not enough troops and the Soviet troops seem to have upgdraded from 41. The good news is Turkey got into the war but they were no match at all for the Societ troops and barely could hold their border. UK had most of Syria and Palestine guarded so no real pressure on Egypt with severely cruddy Turkish Troops.

In short up until 42 after Sea Lion I thought I had this down- but when the USA gets in and Russia ramps up- my early research bent left me with not enough units to defend my lines and way too few tanks.

The troubling this is this is on NOVICE. Are people beating this game on higher difficulty??

On the plus side- it's super fun- so there's that.

You mention Japan, so I think you mean World at War, not War in Europe, but many of the same observations could have been made, the games are very similar.

Sea Lion is a big risk, and leaves you unprepared for Russia, I would not suggest trying it until you gain more experience with the games. And no, Britain does not surrender, they move to Egypt or Canada, another downside of Sea Lion. They probably moved to Egypt in this case, which is why you see so many troops showing up there. Sea Lion is the root of your problem.

Russia is whole other animal, I'll let someone else take that one on.
Lock up your wife and children now,
It's time to wield the blade..
