National Morale - What can affect it?

Post by mroyer »

The major power depicted in the following figure shows a steady deterioration of national morale (circled with B) until it finally hits zero and the nation, of course, surrenders. This is not intentional per the campaign-mod design and I cannot figure out what is causing it. (The circled A drop is understood and intentional.)

None of the other seven major powers suffer from this affliction.

Any ideas what might be causing this? What are the sources of national morale?

Thanks for any thoughts on this!

The smoothness of the graph suggests that there are only two plausible reasons:

1) Some of the Majors' resources are held by the enemy, but that the number of resources held has hardly changed over the course of the game.

2) There is a National Morale script, with the setting Type= 2, that is deducting a set amount of NM points per turn from this Major.

I would suggest searching the National Morale script file for where country_id= the Major's id number, and checking all that come up.

No, I searched every script and they're all Type 1.

Some of the Majors' resources are held by the enemy, but that the number of resources held has hardly changed over the course of the game.

So, I'm thinking perhaps in the editor I have set the ownership of some resource somewhere to this major power but have control of the resource inadvertently set to another major power on the other side.

Is there any way to find such a condition besides hunting around the map one resource at a time?

Also, this begs the bigger question - is it true that an enemy-held resource continually reduces a major power's national morale every turn it is in enemy hands? That doesn't seem right.

Thanks Bill for your help.

Campaign "Edit Country Data" Edit Resource Data (Manual, p. 132)

The National Morale (NM) value of resources can be set here too, with the value set being the NM points that a Major will gain every turn that it occupies a resource of this type belonging to an active Major. This value automatically equals the per turn penalty that the active Major that has lost the resource suffers. The NM value of these resources can be set on a country by country basis.

The NM is reduced every turn by the 'National Morale Value (NM)' that is set for each resource.

Thanks El Condoro, I've missed the "every turn" part of this! (Probably read right through it with preconceived expectations on what it says. [:'(])

Glad you found it, and resource NM values have to be set to an appropriate value because of that rule.
