You greet Barbarians every morning (well not every morning). They would like to show their gratitude by ransacking the city of your choice.

Now wait a minute. The Vikings were peaceful traders, so peaceful that the King of France gave a bunch of them land. Then those peaceful people crossed a water filled ditch and received lands and titles there. Then some went north to Scotland and some went West to Ireland.

Other Vikings settled in Eastern Europe, mixed with the Natives and developed Kiev, Moscow, and other locales.

You left out Sicily

I left out a lot of places where they settled.

1) It is not a Viking in the picture. No idea what the picture is that is labelled Viking. It sure is no Viking.
2) Vikings were not barbarians. They considered themselves very civilized.
3) Civilized people ransacked more cities than the so called barbarians. And that is true even if Vikings are excluded as 'civilized'.

I agree that many people from Scandinavia have been mis-labeled as Viking, and Viking has been mis-used as a synonym for Barbarian.

That arrow pointing to "Vinland" aims a bit high for Newfoundland which is well south of Greenland (Gröenland).

And Viking helmets did not have cattle horns because they had no cattle. Any cattle they managed to slaughter gave up their horns for funky ale drinking cups!

It does depend on the projection, if from the pole then something well to the south can appear a lot higher the more to the left of the map you go?
