From Italy:
The surge can be important during an outbreak and cluster containment has to be in place to slow down virus transmission.
We are seeing a high percentage of positive cases being admitted to our Intensive Care Units, in the range of 10% of all positive patients.
We wish to convey a strong message: Get ready!"
Previously, WHO was breaking it out as 80% of the infected get it and have nothing worse than a really bad flu. The remaining 20% require hospitalization with only 5% needing ICU. That 10% figure is startling, should there be a surge it is very likely that there simply won't be enough ventilators to go around. [X(]

Yes, but as a percentage of the population it is still low. Take sensible sanitary precautions, eat properly which includes looking up foods and supplements that have anti-viral properties that work against this virus, and relax since stress can work against you. If possible, stay away from sick people or people whose family members are ill if it may be this virus. Enjoy the nice, warm winter air outside and away from a mass of people. Just don't consume the anti-freeze until you are inside and won't be going back outside.

In Omaha, Nebraska a woman returned from the U.K. and while in the U.K. felt a little off. Got back to Omaha and for 8 days didn't get any worse. Then after 8 days in public her condition worsened and she was put in hospital with Covid-19. So this woman was likely sick with it in the U.K., on the plane back, conducting life as normal while being contagious the entire time. This virus is exceedingly difficult to avoid. This is an example why.

One case announced in Clark county. And everyone is running to store buying up toilet paper, water, canned vegetables. I went to Costco they were out of water, toilet paper.

It has been discovered that where there is one there are many less apparent. It is thought that Covid-19 has been present in the U.S. long before the first deaths or people put in hospitals. People think they have a cold or the flu. Fairly simple to understand why many are on edge since it is basically hidden among other seasonal diseases. And then when you get scientists saying 40% to 70% of the planet will contract this with tens of millions of deaths...

Greetings RangerJoe,
Yes, the percentage of people affected in NY state is very small:
45/20,000,000 = 0.00000225 x 100% =0.000225%
However, Emperor Cuomo is on local National Public Radio (NPR) radio station and tv stations every day talking about procedures to protect against Corona Virus which you would think would calm the public. But there are runs on hand sanitizer, hand wipes, bottled water and food, not to mention toilet paper.
Well, maybe they should also check on the infectious rate of other diseases then report on them. I mean, with people now taking more care for what should be normal sanitary procedures like washing their hands after using the restroom. Unless, of course, they like the added flavor . . . and the added Hepatitis A among other things.
Of course, the hot air hand dryers just spread germs all over . . .
If you go out to eat like at a buffet, just be very careful of getting finger foods after people who don't wash their hands handle the serving implements . . .
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Greetings to All,
NY state now in declared state of emergency with 76 confirmed Corona Virus cases while 4,000+ are in quarantine awaiting testing or test results across the state: https://www.foxnews.com/us/coronavirus- ... -emergency

Fortunately our government officials have told people they don't need to do that. At least some local government sanity.
From the University of Chicago School of Medicine, September 2016. I'd say they now have a case study:
Cobey and her colleagues simulated climate conditions, population dynamics and patterns of flu epidemics in these regions and found that only the transmission rate had a significant effect on the evolution of new strains that had the potential to spread globally. A transmission rate 17-28 percent higher in one region could explain historically observed patterns of flu epidemics.
"We basically find that increasing the transmission rate just a little bit greatly accelerates the rate at which antigenically novel strains can displace one another," Cobey said.
Understanding how and why seasonal flu tends to originate in these areas reinforces the need for surveillance to identify new strains, not just in the affected parts of Asia, but other parts of the world with high-density populations, like west Africa. It also highlights how public health efforts to limit the spread of flu, namely widespread vaccination, can also limit the emergence of new strains.
Cobey said that while the team's analysis focused initially on flu, it can also apply to any fast-evolving, human transmissible viruses like enteroviruses and colds.
"They spread from continent to continent over a pretty short time scale, so it will be exciting to see if we find similar patterns down the road once we have better surveillance of all these viruses," she said.

Wow it really is getting to look like a zombie apocalypse.
I'm expecting to hear reports of horse drawn carts trundling through the streets with men in rags shouting, 'Bring out your dead, bring out your dead'.
