Insufficient port capacity

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi, there's something a bit irritating when moving units by sea is when clicking on a port to move the selected unit, it says "insufficient port capacity" and then the unit is unselected. So have to return to the other side of the world (meaning an endless map scroll) to reclick the unit and find a suitable port. So my question is to know how this is avoidable ?
And how do i know "before" to click that the port capacity is insufficient ? Where/how do I check this.
Thanks.

units have a load on the counter - ports have a capacity, possibly reduced by damage. Load>capacity = no unloading, once capacity is used in a turn it can't be used again, so even say Antwerp is finite.

the exception is a beach landing - these are unlimited but you take disruption/damage.

broadly don't try to unload an armoured division in anything less than a functioning level 3 port, pref 4 - or over a beachhead.

But where do I see the unit load and the port capacity ? Can't see the load on the counter nor the capacity in the port pop-up or the port window... [&:][&:][&:]

One thing I like to do is to start by only shipping the unit only a couple of hexes out to sea. That way if the port is too small to load the unit, I'll know immediately.

You can also always break down heavier divisions and ship the component regiments/brigades piecemeal. Useful if you're trying to ship to/from small or damaged ports.

Edits:

unit transport cost is shown on the info screen that pops up when you click on a unit name. port capacity is the number that pops up on ports when you select naval move. the shown port capacity is divided by 1000 compared to the unit transport cost, i believe.

this was meant as a general reply but i managed to tag it as a reply to loki somehow-- still getting used to this forum i guess.

Thanks but this seems not to be working. I have a unit with 26 706 transport cost (the 6th BR armoured division) and it won't enter in any empty south Sicily port including Siracusa with 43 port capacity. Same for some HQ units, like the VI US corp HQ that I can't even unload in Oran with 90 port capacity or Tunis (90) and of course not in Sicily.
The mystery remains ...

Two other bits:

a) port capacity is finite, so if you have used it for one unit you can't for another (beaches are the exception here)
b) do you have remaining transport ships? A HQ stuffed with SU can consume a lot of your stock
