ACM on open sea

I cant find in forum search.

But can ACM maintain minefields in open water or shallow water. Or they can only function in ports. The reason I am asking is for area denial. If in shallow straits we can maintain minefields it could be beneficial for Pest control (I mean submarine control )

It seems probably that decay rates in AE are higher than were experienced in real life. The Baltic Sea was practically one giant minefield (see attachment), and many of them are still there. Most of those minefields were not in ports, existed in shallow waters, and were not regularly maintained.

That said, WitP (the AE predecessor) was often referred to as "Mines in the Pacific", so from a game perspective the system works much better in AE.

As a public service announcement, "white phosphor, used in incendiary munitions and for smoke shells, is floating up in bits which are then washed ashore along the south Baltic coast in the same way amber is. It's a real problem for those collecting amber on the beaches, as it looks quite similar to amber and self-ignites when dry".

One example being the extensive minefield laid across the North Sea as part of the blockade of Germany. The German mining of the coastal areas (open waters) of UK during WW2 sank quite a few ships. As did the British along the French coast and in the Channel.
