why is he splitting his squadrons? what is the gain on doing so? I mean vs resizing

If I recall correctly, splitting squadrons gives the components new unit IDs that are lower than existing units, causing their missions to be resolved earlier in the combat phase than those existing units. Could he have plans to sweep somewhere?

Yes, the split squadrons will attack first. Useful for fighter sweeps. But if he splits his bombers it is so he can attack more task forces.

I mean the KB squadrons were destroyed, and it would take ~20 days to bring back, and more to get them ready for combat

Moving into the battle; as I mentioned before, I decided to reinforce Pt Moresby, a week or so ago, I succeeded with the 1st convoy, which was mostly supply + 1 regiment from Americal

two turns ago, I send the 2nd convoy, mainly another Americal regiment + engineers. In both the 1st and 2nd convoys, the Japanese actively tried, but failed, to sink the TFs with LBAs, in both instances we had bloody battles that killed a lot of P-40s, Zeros and Netties

By the end of day of this last convoy, there were no more LBAs attacking, and I thought it was going to return home uneventful... however he had different planes

So he attacked with 2 Aoba cruisers and 9 DDs; this pitted against my Australian-American-New Zealand-French TF of 2 CAs, 4 CLs, 4 DDs

In his email, he mentioned he was very unhappy with the results; but I think they make sense; I had more guns, more powerful guns, we had a tie on the night phase, he probably had poor luck with his torpedo attacks.
He was defeated, in a very long fight, at the day phase, with one, probably 2 CAs lost. I lost 1 DD and probably one CL

with regards to the air battles, I had parked my fleet at Oosthaven, he knew it, but he was busy on Palembang and the base nearby. This was the 1st time he sent a significant force to bomb it; with well coordinated sweeps and using army as well as navy
so overall, I ended with DD Pope and one xAK damaged; all other hits went to the battleships or heavy cruisers and did nothing, as he brought 60kgs mainly

also, you might notice PG/20th PS with P-40Bs.. these are "Manila fighters"; they managed to left Luzon island hoping.. without drop tanks

Indomitable isn't too bad, but Cape Town is a long way to go. Still, with a good captain and enough escorts she should have a fighting chance going that way. It might be the better option if you can't protect her on the way to Colombo. He knows that's where she's likely to go.

I can't use a direct route because I think I risk encountering Palembang's invasion fleet; I will expand soon, but basically I believe Palembang invasion will come from Singapore-Malacca strait-north Sumatra for a landing on Benkoelen

And this is about Palembang

a valid question is why leave Benkoelen unguarded. I think that from all the places he can land, this is the one that benefits the Allies the most. He will invade "in force", probably more than one division landing, and with amphibious advantage, there is nothing I can do to stop him. he will land in turn 1, capture in turn 2 and move from there on. Other than building a second "fortress Palembang" which I can't do, garrisoning it with some small LCU to be destroyed on first battle will be a waste of time and troops.

He will still need to walk 4 hexes to Palembang, and in the meantime I will have an open rail between Oosthaven and Palembang, so some base forces, air HQs, AA could be evacuated. It also means that the main air battle will be over the skies of Oosthaven, 12 hexes from any Japanese base (Singapore and Singkawang), 12 hexes is also the maximum range of Ki-43 Oscar and long range for Zero, which means more chances of operational losses and pilot fatigue for Japan.

So Benkoelen is the better scenario for the Allies; if he, in the other hand, goes for Oosthaven then every single LCU in Sumatra is doomed

Late March and Palembang is not taken yet, or even invested? That's not good.

If this drags out much further, and given your CV superiority, you could consider making a stand on Sumatra. It's still risky, but would basically end the war if successful.

You would need your CVs in the Indian Ocean though to pull that off, and I would still be concerned about Betties from Singapore. You would probably lose transports, and you would also need to start getting fighters, more AV support, and whatever infantry you can lift from India in there ASAP.

If you don't do that, you might consider bringing your CVs into the Indian Ocean anyway; that would force him to have to go through the front door to Palembang, and you could still potentially cause havoc on the invasion fleet
