The situation:
Italy and Germany declares war on Greece.
Italy invades the port Patras.

Why does the notional have a value in the surpriseimpulse?

I think they should not have it. Looks like the program counts the mountain unit as being next to Patras. But there is sea between them.
The notional counts double for mountain terrain and -1 for being surprised. Leaves +1 for notional.
doesn't make sense to me.

It's possible the summary doesn't take into account that it's a surprise impulse. Save it there and follow through to the combat to see if it still has a non-zero value. If so, post a bug report in the Tech Support forum.

If it is bugged, you can get past this by turning on pick die rolls and forcing it to be automatic.

Did both Axis countries make a US Entry die roll?

If Italy did a DOW, but not Germany, and the Greeks aligned with CW, then Greece is at war with Germany. But would not suffer from the Surprise rule while fighting German units on the Surprise impulse.

Ah! There we have it! Germany did not declare war in spite of what I wrote in the first post, the players reloaded after seeing two rolls and went with just the one roll.

Could it be due to the sea section it invaded from?

I guessed it was italian because he said so.

That black unit is a German SS division.

Thanks, it would look so, but I kind of remembered having seen some IT black or partially black units, that's why I believed the first post's info.

If Orm says so, I cannot tell, but I just called a friend and asked him whether there was a black italian unit. He told me "yes, a division", the Italian "Black Shirts", don't know what the name is in the game. Of course in the Board Game

Edit: I found it, it's tha 14th SS inf as Orm said. Now that I see the name I can guess it in the picture.

MWIF is so good at enforcing the rules, it make me wonder how many of these subtle issues such as this escape scrutiny when playing the board game version.
